SOURCE: car won,t start sometimes & check engine light

before changing any more parts there are grounds on the engine that need cleaned one on the back of intake manifold then you have to remove battery tray clean up the ground there then clean where the tray bolts up as this aids in chassis grounding remove ground cable from bellhousing before you reassemble install star washers btween cable ends and where they bolt up this will dig into ground surface and cables making a better ground then remove turn signals in front there are two on right side and one on left side cleanup and star washer then there is the ground spots for the ecm inside removr kick panel on right side clean up and star washer if the starter doesnt work after this starter is probably bad but the other codes will probably clear out

SOURCE: misfire in cylinder 3

NO to the MAF Sensor Question, and Spark Plug Wires Or BOOT Will Cause Missfire. As For Mass Air Flow Sensor Easy Check is to Dissconnect it While Engine is Running And If ENGINE SMOOTHES OUT The Sensor is Bad

Autos can be frustrating! I call it ghost in the machine...After all that, I would check the pressure at the fuel rail. My mother's Volvo turbo acted similarly and it was because of a worn fuel pump that was regulated electronicly. After 2 Volvo techs spent an hour on it + test drives, they told me that my diagnosis was correct, the fuel pressure at the rail was intermittently eratic and performed normally most of the time. No problems since the replacement 2 yrs ago. Let me know if you make progress and I'll check with my neighbor who has one and drag races as a hobby...MK

1989 Pontiac Firebird has no power, and will not start.

Clean battery connections and lightly coat with Vaseline. Check the earth lead on the negative connections has a nice clean bond to the bodywork.

There doesn't appear to be a main fuse, but check on the positive battery lead.

Where is the ground strap on a '99 Ford Escort?

The engine block should be ground. Check between the poles on the battery for 12 volts. Then check between the positive pole on battery and engine block for 12 volts. If you don't get 12 volts between positive pole and engine block you may need a new ground cable or all negative connector cleaned and tightened.

I put a new tensioner for the belt on my 1998 pontiac firebird v6. now the battery went out and dont know if its the battery or alternator

The best way is to extract the battery and FULLY charge it, then test it. Many parts stores can do this for free. Then, if the battery is okay, pull the alternator and have it bench tested. Likely that one of those steps will show your issue.

Batteries that have gone completely dead seldom have very much life left in them...

I put a new battery and alternator but my battery keeps running dead and ive had the alternator tested and its good. what should i do

remove all the battery cables and clean them out. If you have an aftermarket cd player, I would check the wiring, especially the ground wire because that could drain the battery.

It kinda sounds like the battery isn't getting power out to the cables. Corrosion may be the problem, If you can get a meter on it, see if you have good voltage at the battery, and to the cables, and that it's grounded good.Follow it away from the battery if.....the battery seems good!
