The 405 was available as a 4-door only. Four-cylinder petrol engines included 65, 92, 110, 125, and 160 hp (48, 69, 82, 93, and 119 kW) units. A 1.8-litre diesel engine, with or without a turbo (70 and 90 hp (52 and 67 kW)) was added to the range during 1988 as was the 5-door estate.

The 405 range included three petrol engines and two diesel engines, all four-cylinder with no 6-cylinder option, in a variety of states of tune and specification. This is a non-interference engine. Anyone saying anything different is using an old book. Some Ford dealers might even tell you it is interference. There are reliefs cut into the top of the pistons to clear the valves if the belt breaks. There is a how-to posted here and on Team ZX2 .com

You didn't mention what engine you have. If it is the 1.8 litre DOHC engine, it is in the valve cover. Here is the location on the 1.9 liter SOHC engine.
Replacing it is just a matter of popping the old one out and the new one in.

i need to know wich engine you have. if it is an 1,6 or 1,8 litre zetek or 16 v check the sensor at the gearbox

Have your car scanned for a code. At AutoZone or similar stores they will do it for free. It could be a variety of things that are wrong.
