Most engine belts, (auxiliary, serpentine etc), are usually kept tight with a spring loaded tensioner. Over time the spring can weaken. Changing the tensioner could solve the issue. You might have to slacken the idler pulley to give you enough slack to set the correct tension.

SOURCE: where is crankshaft sensor on 99 kia sportage?

The crankshaft pos. sensor is located on the left "driver" side of the engine on the bellhousing and is retained by a single 10mm bolt. The sensor may be tight,be sure to twist as you pull so that it doesnt break off in the bottom end.

HOLD keeps coming on in my 99 kia sportage what does that mean

Look on the shifter lever, just bellow the push button. There is another push button there. That's the one you press or depress to keep the transmission on 3rd. gear. Just press it again and the hold light should come off.

Why wont my 99 kia sportage go over 20 mph?

Have the timing belt checked to make sure it has not jummed a notch, but I warn you,if it has, further starting, and runnig the engine can make it jump more,or break, and will cause engine valve damage. If it needs the belt ,have it done before starting the vehicle any more.

How do you replace a timing belt on a 96 kia sportage?

its a long process. if automatic with ac you must leave radiator on. whick doesnt give you any room but take off the fan, fan shroud and big pully. remove thermostat, must replace termostat housing gasket! 1.99 at oreillys. remove timing cover and finally the timing belt. you must time it just right or will not start. left cam is INTAKE so the I should be straight up at 12 o'clock you;ll see a notch for each cam, right side is EXHAUST so the E should be straight up at 12 o'clock. move tensioner pully to the left and lock by tightening the bolt. as you hold the intkae cam in place have someone else hold the exhaust cam in place both with right size wrenchs. put timing belt on correctly and keep tension on belt. losen tensioner pully and loc it back in place. put every thing on and start.
