I would check the fuel line to make sure there isnt any leaks. But also make sure your fuel injectors are clean. But when you loose fuel pressure its usually the hose from the pump to the fuel pump assembly But low fuel pressure also can be caused from faulty pressure regulator, clogged fuel filter or a high resistance in the fuel pump regulator. So when testing you got to test it mechanically and electronically.

Under the hood next to the firewall is your multi-function box. It controls fuel and other things in your truck. You can pull your fuel supply line loose at the back of the injection rail and have someone turn the key on to see if you are getting fuel. If you are not, you will need test for power to the multi-function box and fuel pump. If you don't have a basic understanding of how to test for power to these components, my advice will not be much of an immediate help.

If you're standing looking at the rear of the vehicle, it's on the chassis rail on the right hand side rear wheel arch.

I smell gas when driving my 97 land rover discovery. I do already know I need a fuel pump. Is the gas coming from too much being injected into the engine, thus leaking out because of the bad fuel pump?...

I know that if a fuel pressure regulator is bad it will emit the fuel smell under hood. but just be sure you have no fuel leaks in the fuel lines first. good-day !

I have a 97 land rover discovery DS. How do I know if I need a new oil pump? Thank you

You need to check the oil pressure at the oil filter, why do you think you need an oil pump?

The first thing to do is determine if the pump is running. Can you hear it? If yes, then check the pressure with a gage. If it's not running, then you check the fuse and relay. If the pressure is good, then you check for sparks, etc.

1998 land rover discovery. Fuel pump recently replaced, but now pump does not shut off after 5 sec when it should when engine is started. any suggestions?

The fuel pump must run constantly while the engine is running. There is a return for excess fuel back to the tank.
