Does it have the module on the side of the distributor or on the fender ? Was it replaced ?

  • stephen peirce Nov 14, 2019

As I said before check plug gaps and distributor cap and the rotor after an engine is running at full operating temperature and you shut it off it immediately goes into heat soak which is rising temperature for a sustained period because there is no fan cooling off the engine this heat soak causes expansion of the spark plugs electrode on the base of the plug which makes the air gap wider between it and the firing pin so now what happens is the fuel coming in is vaporizing in the cylinders because it can't be ignited for the explosion to take place inside the cylinders so the repeated cranking is flooding the engine with unburned fuel which now makes the fuel air ratio completely out of specifications and it will never start until the engine is able to (a) cool down & (b) vent itself through the throttle body & the exhaust manifolds ///this will also happen from the distributor cap and rotor being severely worn and also the pick up coil inside the distributor next post comments

First step is to narrow down the problem. Sparay some quick start in the throttle body and see if it starts, if it dies, u have a fuel issue. If it doesn't start with quick spray, check spark at the plugs.

Possibly a bad coil. As they wear they get hot and fail to work properly, when they cool down they will operate properly again till they get hot during the next use.

my dad used to say you need two things to start a motor; gas and fire. Check these and make sure they are both good. You have to go through the steps from there. Could be a fuel filter. could be bad plugs. etc. etc... Hope it helps.

SOURCE: Truck just stops b- 2005 Ford F150 80,000 miles

I had the same issue i changed the fuel fillter it was a little dirty but not bad. Still had problem then i cleaned out the throtel it worked good for a while. Ended up replacing the throtel its about $250 if you do it yourself which is not hard to do. The problem is the electronic throtel control but you have to replace the whole thing not sold seperatly hope that helps. Been running great did that 15,000 miles ago.

You'll need to replace the distributor as an assembly, they are a very common problem and sold at any good local parts store fairly cheaply. Remove the cap first to note the position of the rotor. The distributor only goes in one way, but it's easier if you know which way to point the rotor when you install it. It's a good idea to re-time it after the install but if you mark the location of the old one, you can get pretty close if you put the new one in the same spot.

While driving my f150, cools just fine after 20 miles it starts to overheat at lights

Could be a fan clutch, sticking thermostat, or restriction in the cooling system including air in the system.

My 1991 ford f150 dies after 20 minutes and wont start again for another 20

Could be a bad coil. Sometimes when a 'bad' coil heats up it will fail to work properly. When it fails and shuts the vehicle off, this gives it time to cool back down and resume proper operation. Does it run at normal highway speed during that 20 minutes? If not then it could be a clogged fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter will let the vehicle run at idle but will starve the engine at higher rpm's.

Truck cuts off while driving down the road.

Replace the TFI module. Ford back in 1986 thur 1993 had problems like the one you wrote about. TFI module gets hot and shuts car or truck off then when it cools sometmies starts and sometimes not.

F150 is having trouble shifting out of park

The problem could be the brake switch. Before you crank your engine, turn the key to the on position, this bypasses the brake switch. You should be able to shift into any gear. If you can, start it and drive it, but ever time you shift into park, you will have to turn your truck off and repeat the process. If that is the case, have the brake switch replaced. If that does not work, something could be wrong with the linkage between the shifter and the transmission. Or something could be wrong with the transmission. Good luck.
