I need to remove the alternator from my 2003 ford focus. took it loose but cant get it out from top or bottom

alternator ground or possible voltage regulator but all else its the alternator or a short in the wiring

the thermostat is situated below and to the right of the alternator in the thermostat housing. if you romove the alternator you can then see the thermostat housing..hope this helps.

battery clamps or terminals loose or corroded, bad ground wire from battery to chassis thats where i would start. check connection to alternator as well

two bolts at the top ,,,yes well the top right one you have to remove the stud ,their easy to do ,dont forget the bottom one as well

Remove the right front tire, right halfshaft and right side splash shield. You will then need to drop the center engine support (right hand side of the engine compartment, at the front of the engine). Yes we have loads of fun at the dealership changing them, we draw straws. Short straw looses.

you have to remove the axel shaft and the top bracket and then pull the alternator out

Check your battery ground connections. Make sure the vehicle chassis (and alternator) is properly grounded.
Check for any loose connections around the main high current 12V supply fuses.
Check the clicking in the steering column is not a loose supply wire arcing.

remove cooling fan assembly and drop alternator from bottom or top.

yes remove the mount bolt and drop the engine to remove the alternator

Just took one out last night. It also was stuck. Had to use small pry bar to get off the front mount. Sprayed the mount with PB blast to help. You do have to use some force, becareful not to break any electrical connections. Once the front mount was free, I had to pry up on it using a small hatchet. Only thing that would fit and actually be able to pry. The alternator became twisted from prying only on one side, so I used a block of wood and tapped it back straight. It finally released from the mounts and came loose. Then the fun begins in trying to actually get it out. Had to disconnect everything around it, took two people and alot of twisting and turning. Not looking forward to getting it back in. Removal took over 2 hours.
