If your wires somehow got disconnected or burnt go to a junk yard and cut out the connector with as much wire as you can get then match them up color to color or buy the chiltons book but it might not have that so the junkyard is the best solution

SOURCE: 1993 ford explorer - toublshooting fuse/electical problem

I believe the fuse for your starter is in the power distribution box, 93 explorer 4.0L 4X4. find diagram for this in Chilton Ford Ranger/Explorer/Mountaineer 1991-1999 Repair Manual 26688 page 6-43 Fig.88 Be aware that there are (4) figures for the 93 4.0L explorer and each shows a different part of the same engine wiring. See top right 'power distribution box' follow lines to the part of your engine you are concerned with, which fuse number, then look inside your engine, passenger fender, push down on the protective ?wall then pull the cover up, see your diagram and fuse numbers. The diagram for inside fuse box, page 6-31 fig.63 I hope this helps

SOURCE: How do you replace the ignition switch in a 1999 Ford Explorer?

This is very easy to replace. Had to replace my ignition switch on my 96 ford explorer ... Just went to Auto Zone got the switch, which was cheap and then changed it. Has instructions with it, but there is a tiny hole on the steering wheel column that you need something small to fit in and there is a spot you need to push in there, may have to wiggle around to find it, you will know when you find it and the ignition will pop out and then just pull it out, take the new one line it up and pop it in. Job done. :)

SOURCE: Where is the ignition switch on a 1997 ford

if it is making a rapid clicking sound while trying to start it, your battery is not fine. you can try to jump it. hook up the cables properly and allow the vehicle to sit for about 3-5 minutes. allow the "jumping" vehicle to just idle. reving the engine will not do anything.

Testimonial: "It dont make rapid clicks. Just one big click and thats it. "

SOURCE: Can I remove a damaged ignition key switch from a 99 astro van?

yes, that is what a large srew driver is for, hehe.
However you will need to pull the stering wheel
and remove the internal blinker assembly and remove a bolt holding it in place, if you need to move the tumbler use a srew driver and force it around. This
should be done by a good mechanic, even we have a fun time...If it is design like I think

Check the positive battery cable, see if it looks swollen, if so then acid has migrated into it and that is the problem. The positive cable is a bitc..to replace

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. After removing the key from the ignition and opening the driver door the radioed and windows still have power to them. What's going on here??

Somehow you have a short in the accessory position of the ignition switch, or a wiring fault elsewhere has bypassed the accessory switch. In particular, if you have had an aftermarket radio or remote starter installed, there may be an error in the wiring. or poor quality splicing may have permitted a short between the radio keep-alive (always on) and radio main power (connected through the accessory circuit).

98 explorer changed steerin column will this make my door locks and windows not work

I believe it is 96 to 99 on these. If you got outside these years, then yes. You have a problem. It can be rewired, but you need schematics for both years.

The head light switch goes open circut most times on high beam . Two options to fix replace switch, or wire in a duel head light relay. I have used the second option in our shop many times.

99 ford explorer changed ignition now wont start

If your vehicle was towed, check the fuel pump intertia switch located near the top of the passenger side kick panel.
if you changed the key, you will be having an antitheft problem.
you could try putting an original key at the lock cylinder while turning the new key, it may allow it to start... if so, new key will require programming, or have the new lock cylinder coded to the old keys.

You may have dirty or clogged fuel injectors, may also be problems with the ignition system. Might also check the fuel pressure to make sure the fuel pump is working correctly.
