SOURCE: high revs

being a fuel injected engine , there are many reasons this could be happening.
from the top , lets check the Manifold Absolute Pressure (M.A.P.) sensor , as it is easiest.
Find the MAP sensor , it has a couple a wires and a vacuum tube going to it and is on the firewall or fender support under the bonnet.
Disconnect the wire harness from it (small plug with wires).
If the engines RPMs drop to normal , replace the MAP sensor.

SOURCE: how to replace head gasket and how to put it back in time when assembling back together on 2.4l (quad4) engine??

There will be marks on the cam gear and the crank gear. Some are dots, some are diamond shaped. You just line the two up so the top mark is directly over mark on the crank. You may have to turn the crank by hand which is easier with all the plugs out, to line it up. You will want to drain oil, change filter, and put in new oil to get rid of contaminated oil in oilpan.
If you fail, you are not talking about a lot of money to try to fix the top of the engine compared to engine replacement. For the most part, you could still tow it.
You could ask how much it would cost just to replace the gasket and let someone else bust their knuckles.

SOURCE: Car revs high when not in gear, but still revs

Timing has been adjusted to high, or the spark advance is out of adjustment causing the revving

Noise at shut down

The noise is caused by the engine running on after the ignition is shut off. It makes noise because the pistons are rattling in the cylinders from incorrect timing. This has nothing to do with the mechanical or electronic timing of the engine. The engine runs on either because of hot glowing carbon deposits in the cylinder head or because the engine was shut down when it was running too fast. Sometimes the carbon can be literally blown out by running the engine at high rpm for a short time. Put it in second gear and run it for a couple of miles on the highway. If this does not work the heads will have to be removed and the carbon cleaned out manually. The shut down when running too fast problem can be caused by the idle being set too high or by shutting the engine off before it has reached idle speed. If you can adjust the idle speed try reducing it. If not always hesitate before shutting the engine down to let it reach idle speed. Good Luck!

Trouble code 1345 crank sensor/camshaft sensor correlation

I had this same P1345 code on my 1998 GMC K1500 5.7 for about 2 years. Each time the code was erased, the "Service Engine Light" came right back on with the same code. I tried replacing the cam sensor, but that didn't solve it. I had the timing adjusted, it was out -13 degrees. After adjustment, the "Service Engine Light" went off, but only for a short time. Adjusting the timing is just a temporary mask on fixing the real problem and eventually you will run out of adjustment. I read about this same problem on another forum and someone recommended changing the distributor gear. So I checked the gear and a the teeth were worn. Replaced the gear ($35 part), readjusted the timing and the light has been off ever since. Apparently the gears in 96-99 are soft and wear enough to throw off the timing. This code is telling you the crank and distributor are out of sync. So before you start buying sensors and other misc. parts, try the distributor gear if you are getting a P1345 code.

1990 Honda Accord DX 5 speed no power/2 cylinders not firing?

ok.....as far as the oil on them it is possible it is only the spark plug tube seals located on the inside of the valve cover,in fact if you can remember when you took the old plug wires off the boots of a couple propably had oil on them.now as far as the real problem I would recommend checking the timing belt it is possible it jumped time, its pretty simple just remove the valve cover(gonna replace the seals anyways)and top timing cover.roll the engine around and look for the cam and crank marks.if you need anymore suggestions or help let me know have a good day DB

1990 5 speed Honda Accord DX 2 cylinders wont fire

Could be head gasket or piston rings. Piston ring issues will smoke under load or when revving the engine.

Do a compression test.
