It’s possible that your wheel is turned engaging then ignition lock. While trying to turn the key wiggle the wheel left in right. There should be some play in the steering wheel, but if the wheels are turned, it can cause tension on the wheel.
Also, of course make sure your vehicle is in park.
Try turning your steering wheel from left to right while you gently try removing the key. if that doesnt work and your car is a automatic with the shifter in the center console there is a cable running to the transmission that sometimes becomes loose causing the car not to be fully into the park position.

When the battery is dead, the key cannot be removed. You can either charge the battery, and remove the key or, there is a access panel (small) under the steering column, remove this, and push a small pluger to the left, while holding the plunger, remove the key.

1st Remove Battery cable from Battery because the only time the air bags will deploy is when the key is in the ignition. I have tilt steering and when I put the steering wheel in the up most position. I came right out. But now it seems to stick more lately.

SOURCE: Ignition on my 2004 jeep grand Cherokee is locked,
tap the ignition lock cylinder with the plastic end of a scrwedriver (with the key removed). then insert the key and try to start. Try this several times. If you get it to turn immediately replace the igntion lock cylinder. The cylinder needs to be in the on position in order for the lock button to be depressed so that the cylinder can be removed from the housing.
If you still can't get it to turn than you will have to drill out the lock button in order to get the old lock cylinder out. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have some experience and understand what you are doing.
The lock button can be accessed by removing the lower steering column cover.
