Anita as mentioned there are 2 hoses that go into the firewall under the passenger side wiper and 1 comes from the intake manifold the other should go back to the water pump on the front of your engine by pulleys in the center you may need an adapter because both hoses might not be the same size

There should be 2 hoses going thru the firewall. The only thing on the other side is the heater.

the heater bypass is quite simple, if you look at the firewall you will see two medium sized coolant lines, remove them from the firewall and link them together using a proper sized tube, you can purchase a kit at a parts store quite cheaply

SOURCE: Heater core burned out and I want to bypass the coolant hoses.

Without knowing your car specifically I can suggest the generic way to do it. Locate the two heater hoses going into the firewall, probably on the passenger side. They're the ones that get hot and are about an inch + in diameter. Disconnect. Measure the inside diameter of the hose and purchase a short piece of galvanized or copper pipe (6 inches) at Home Depot. Connect both ends of the hoses to the pipe to form a loop. Secure the hoses so they don't land some place that would cause a problem.

I had this problem on an 85 Tbird. I had heard about a product called Bars Leak and tried it. It worked. No leaks and I kept my heater. You should be able to find it at any parts place at less than $10. Ground black pepper also has worked for me.

you need to remove the two hoses going into the firewall and plug them. They sell plugs and hose clamps at the parts house. Measure the hose size which is either going to be a 1/2' or 5/8" or 3/4"

SOURCE: How do you bypass a heater core on the 2000 Chevy

Yes it can be done. look at your engine on it there will be two heater hoses coming from the engine to the heater, disconnect those two heater hoses at engine, with heater hose and two hose clamps, get the hose and clamp first at auto parts, install one end and the other end of same hose, where you disconnected the heater hoses from the engine, you have just by-pass the heater, hope this was very helpful.

Testimonial: "Okay great thanks. I'll have to find a T, not much luck when I looked at Auto Zone or O'Reilly"

How to remove the heater core on 94 mercury cougar

Removing the Old Core
  • Disconnect the Mercury Cougar's negative battery cable. Remove the center console from the interior. Disarm the car's air bag system and remove the bag's diagnostic monitor and bracket.

  • Take the heater outlet floor duct out of the car. Remove the screw holding the air transfer duct and push it into the outlet duct. Unscrew the screws retaining the outlet duct to the heater core cover and release the retaining tabs on each side to remove the duct.

  • Raise and support the Mercury Cougar, using multiple jackstands. Drain the engine coolant by removing the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Replace the drain plug after all the liquid flows into a clean container and disconnect the heater hoses from the core

  • Withdraw the black vacuum supply hose from the vacuum source (you can now lower the vehicle). Disconnect the same hose from the air conditioner's vacuum reservoir tank.

  • Detach the heater core cover that holds the core by releasing the retaining tabs and removing the clips. Remove the dash panel seal, vacuum hose and heater core bracket from the cover.

  • Remove the heater core from the cover and the case seal from the core

I have a 1994 mercury cougar that won't shift out of park. the brake lights do work. please help

This is wiring for shift interlock. Some makes and models have a bypass button close to shifter in order to bypass shift interlock. I don't know if your vehicle has that button or not? I looked at info for 6 cylinder.

2003 mercury sable blows cool air when heater is turned on.

Most likely it is a clogged heater core. Have your heater core reverse flushed or your blend door is stuck open.

Where is the heater coil in a 1999 mercury cougar

Underneath the radio, attached to the firewall. If you look under the hood you will see where the heater hoses go through the firewall in the center of the engine compartment. My heater kept getting colder and colder.I removed both heater hoses and backflushed the core with water and compressed air. It blew a lot of scale buildup out of there and restored the core to like new effectiveness. Prepare to get soaked while doing this water goes everywhere.

The heater core in a 97 cougar i just bought has been bypassed. Could the problem have possibly (hopefully) been something else besides the heater core?

Hi,
The answer is: Your first instinct is probably right. But, you're not going to know for sure until you hook it back up and check it out. Be careful, check for leaks inside and out of the car. You don't want to end up with more problems than you have now.
Hope this Helps,

Heater is blowing cold air,

Check operation of heater coolant control valve, and it's associated remote control mechanism.
Check that both inlet and return heater hose is equally warm, as this indicates coolant flow through the heater core.
If no coolant flow:-
Check cooling system is correctly filled, taking care to bleed off any air locks from the system as necessary (with heater coolant valve open);
Check heater core is not blocked.
