2004 buick rendezvous 3.4l v6 do I need to have my truck running when adding the antifreeze back in my car after flushing the radiator

I opened the petcock on my radiator and let it drain for 15mins, and then I put the coolant in the radiator directly. It would only hold 1/2 gallon of antifreeze. Do I ne ed to have the car running when adding the fluid to have it cycle all the way through?

First why are you adding it are you overheating? Just a question here for a regular coolant change after you add it you must run the engine to circulate it but when drain it if you didn't drain the engine also there's still fluid in there and that's why only a little bit did you remove the coolant bottle cap when draining it ? Also you obviously had the car jacked up so this raises the engine on an angle keeping a lot of fluid in and you need to remove the lower hose for it to come out on level ground

SOURCE: Radiator flush for my suzuki forenza.

For the do-it-yourself kind of mechanic, there is a kit sold by Prestone that will help you back flush the system using an ordinary garden hose. Available at most any auto-parts store, Walmart & such. It has the basic instructions on the container but I'll give you an overview.

You will need a large container to catch the anti-freeze coming out, You could drain it by removing the plug at the bottom of the radiator first , or remove the lower hose & get most of it out & then just flush the remainder, back-flushing is recommended.

There is a piece that fits into the radiator caps position that helps to aim the water towards a container but sometimes you can't use it due to size restrictions & limitations on space & have to catch the fluid with a drain pan as it overflows.

You will need to install a backflush connector "T". You simply cut into one of the 2 heater hoses, preferably the return line, and install that piece using 2 hose clamps to secure it. The garden hose hooks there.

The engine should be cool, you can crack a head or block by drowning a hot engine with ice cold water.

Just turn the water on slowly, once the anti-freeze stops coming out & it's just water, remove the drain pan & recycle what anti-freeze you can. Remember, most anti-freeze is fatal to birds & animals, including large dogs & children, so clean spills or at least dilute it with water until it is not a threat.

once done, drain the system & refill with the mix you prefer for your area, usually not less than a 50/50.

good luck.

SOURCE: Can't find radiator drain valve on 2003 Buick Rendezvous

You will have to jack the car up and get under it to get to the drain valve, it is located on the back side of the radiator tank, drivers side, if not there then opposite side..

SOURCE: Heater not working

The Navigator has rear air, so coolant lines run to a heater core in the rear. It will help if you elevate the front of the truck on a set of ramps or incline. Turn the heat for both front and rear. Run the truck and add coolant as needed until all the bubbles come out of the coolant tank. You can tell when you get coolant to the rear when hot air blows from the vents. By raising the front of the truck you allow the the air in the lines to bleed to the front.

SOURCE: How do I flush the radiator

Well you can purchase a Prestone Flushing Kit, that includes a T valve with a cap that you can remove to connect a garden hose to, that you would install in line in one of heater hoses. Install the T valve, connect a garden hose to the T valve, remove the radiator cap and turn on the garden hose, once you have clear water coming out the radiator, turn off the hose and disconnect it and install the T valve cap. Then on the other tank that doesn't have the radiator cap, at the bottom of that tank, is a petcock, unscrew it to drain the radiator. Drain the water out and close the drain and refill the radiator.

2004 rendezvous. water'pump siezed and vehicle overheated. new pump, thermostat, 16 psi radiator cap, radiator... was pressure tested with no 'obvious leaks'. minimal to no heat .

Did you get all the air out, remove radiator cap, start up.let run until the thermostat opens, you will see the flow in radiator, put cap back on and fill overflow container to full.

HELP!!!! Please & Thank You. I have an 05 Buick Rendezvous 3.4L just changed intake gasket manifolds and now water is shooting from the radiator.. What could this be?

indicates blown head gasket
do a compression test to confirm then replace head gaskets and have the head/s shaved as they will be warped

Head gasket or IM gasket? 05 rendezvous overheats..pushing fluid back to top of radiator or to reserve when cap is on. i think there's antifreeze on spark plug threads and maybe in cylinder for #2..ge

If it has the 3400 v6, better known as the 3.4litre, this motor was prone to head gasket failures. Antifreeze on spark plugs is a sign of head gasket failure, so is antifreeze in the oil. Have a mechanic put a dye in the cooling system that is detected with a certain light and that will tell you exactly where it's coming from. Headgasket repair is not cheap. May be easier and cheaper to replace the motor. Wish you the best!

Head gasket or IM gasket? overheating, think there's antifreeze on spark plug threads. drained flushed bled system. new thermostat rad cap. still overheating.

Somebody been using tap water in their radiator? The vehicle is old enough to have a lot of accumulated rust and crud in the Radiator which, depending on relative water quality and location of water pump could over pressure the system and have it squirting into overflow. If the threads of the plug have antifreeze on them it's coming from the OUTSIDE not the inside.

Found rust like material in water system change radiator and water pump thermostat .flushed system numerious times car still runs hot and water is still a rusty mess.

You may have to flush the system again. Did you use a commercial flush such as Prestone Super Flush? Plain water won't remove the rust and sludge. The Dex-cool antifreeze that GM recommends for their cars is bad about forming a gummy sludge in the cooling system. It clogs radiators and heater cores. I would suggest another flush with the Prestone product. Follow the directions closely for best results. One thing that will help is. after you drain the radiator, refill with clear water and let the engine run until the coolant is circulating good, then drain it again. Do this three or four times. This will ensure that all the antifreeze has been removed from the engine block. When you refill the radiator, use a green antifreeze that is compatible with aluminum radiators and aluminum engine parts. Do not use Dex-cool. Dex-cool can also cause the intake gaskets to fail. Make sure the new thermostat is at least a 195degree unit and that it is installed correctly. you would be surprised how many thermostats get installed upside down. After refilling the radiator, leave the radiator cap off and let the engine run until the coolant is flowing. Keep adding antifreeze each time the coolant is pulled down into the radiator. Use full strength antifreeze because the water that is retained in the block will dilute it. A 50/50 mixture won't protect below freezing.

My buick is overheating and has brown sludge in the radiator. why?

most likely the intake gasket is shot. check to see if the gaket is leaking. if the gasket fails it will add oil to coolant. i did mine on a 3.1 last year, and it has been running good since then. if you do the job, do not to forget to flush out system good before adding new coolant. you can check for a head gasket leak, but this usually causes car to over heat etc. check intake gasket. if this is the 3.1 or bigger. they have a new revised intake gasket set. mine had a lot of oil in coolant tank!! good-luck!!

2004 doge dakota 3.7 V6 I just replaced the water pump and the thermostat and it is still getting hot. I looked for a bleed valve and can not find one. any ideals

YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THESE FIRST
make sure your radiator is clear and not blocked in any of the fins and openings and make sure your fan is working

u may need to flush the cooling system-could be blockage somewhere
bleed valve should be on bottom of radiator on right side looking at front of truck
if u still can't find it just remove the bottom hose on radiator-make sure engine is not hot before doing this
u can buy flush kit at any auto store
after flushing-put water if-not antifreeze
run for 15 to 25 minutes and see if it gets hot
if not-drain and put antifreeze in
if it still gets hot you may have gasket problems allowing fluids to leak out or hot gases from exhaust to get into you're cooling system
check tail pipe for steam

good luck

Im trying to change the antifreeze but it has only one cap on the plastic and not on the raditor would that be a prob when change

Best way to change the antifreeze is to open the petcock at the bottom of the radiator to drain the antifreeze/coolant. Once completely drained close the petcock and refill. Only other way would be to get a flush kit which involves cutting a heater hose, inserting a T and running a garden hose through the system with the radiator open at the bottom through the petcock while the motor is running.
Hope this answers your question. Good luck!
