SOURCE: Suburban will not start under 1\4 tank of gas.

yes it could be the fuel pump. my chevy truck was doing something similar, would start unless i parked on an uphill grade. when you turn the key through run to the start position the fuel system pressurizes. if your fuel pump is weak it can't draw hard enough to pull the fuel up. as long as the vehicle is running the fuel system is primed, but when you shut it off it runs back down to the tank. that's the way it's designed and it's not normally a problem, but if your fuel pump is getting tired it can't pull it up any more. just a tip, if you live in a hot climate, especially in the summer, your fuel pump will live longer if you keep it over a quarter tank. the fuel pump is really just a little electric motor that incidentally pumps fuel and generates a lot of heat. the fuel in the tank helps soak up the heat and let your fuel pump live longer. hope that helps

You will have to have the dealer reset the security light to restart vehicle.Check all engine and chassie grounds because this is where the lighting would exit the vehicle. It sounds like a ground burnt through.

The gauge problem sounds like the common issue on the 03-05 Sunfire instrument clusters where the stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board fail over time. It can be fixed, check out this page for more on how to get it repaired - Sunfire instrument cluster fix

My fuel gauge in my 2003 navigator reads wrong and will drop to empty then to 1/4 tank and then empty, then eventually it will show full but takes a long time to get there after filling up?

sending unit is bad, sending unit , I would advise replacing sending unit and fuel pump together.--- even though fuel pump is still working , it is old. and could go out ! and you only want to the job 1 time. I guess you know these parts are in the fuel tank? the new strainer will come with new fuel pump. some cars also have a external fuel filter under the car body, you do NOT want a dirty fuel filter with a new fuel pump, it is a big job pulling the fuel tank out of cars. do your research before starting the job. very few cars have a panel where you can get the fuel pump out of the car , without taking the fuel tank out of the car, and yes you do have to take the fuel pump out to replace the sending unit, which sends the signal to your fuel gage. a word of advice let your fuel tank be almost empty, you do not want to lift a lot of gas as it weighs around 8 pounds a gallon, again do your research before you start this job. NOTE , reset your trip indicater to keep track of the miles you drive so you do not run out of gas. until you get parts replaced GOOD LUCK. Tom

We can't put more than $20 in the tank before it starts to over flow, with the gas gauge on empty when we start pumping. Then the gauge reads 3/4 tank. When it runs down to half it jumps straight down to...

Your fuel pump assembly located inside the gas tank has a float that measures how much gasoline is in the tank. False readings means the fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced.

2003 chevy tahoe won't start if it has been sitting for a few days. it will start fine if it has been running the same day, otherwise it takes over 10 tries to start. just changed the fuel filter and the...

The problem is the fuel pump. The fuel pump assembly located in the fuel tank has a one way check valve in it. This check valve either jams or wheres out and then the fuel drains back into the tank after sitting for a period of time and makes the truck almost impossible to start. If the truck runs fine once it is started then this is your problem. To verify the problem purchase a fuel pressure gauge kit and connect it to the fuel rail, turn the key to the on position but do not start it the pressure shopul read around 56 PSI or more. Turn the ignition off and let the truck sit for approx 2 to 3 hours and recheck the pressure gauge if it has dropped then the check valve is no good and you have to replace your fuel pump.

I don't always agree with the dealership and there innovations. It does sound like you need a fuel pump. the sock or p/u tube, at the bottom of the pump has come off. GM fuel pumps are usually good for 100K+ miles but unless you can verify that the filter inside the tank is still doing its job. you may compound your problem by sending unfiltered fuel to your injectors. Good luck.

Ram van dies

sounds to me like the fuel pump is bad, when it warms up it dies, try to check this by filling the tank and running a while, then run the van with a near empty tank and see how it does. A full tank of gas should keep the fuel pump cool as it is surrounded by the liquid. I had a similar problem. when my tank got to about a quarter full (3/4 empty) the van would shut off after a short distance, then after sitting for a while would start up again get me a little farther then shut off again. i ended up changiung the fuel pump cost me almost $300. if this simple test shows no results the you got electrical problems, check distributor, and surrounding cables. good luck. also check your fuses could be dirty!
