It is built into a thermostat housing and is located under the throttle body. Just follow the upper hose and the hoses that go to the heater core. You can remove it without taking the exhaust crossover pipe off, but it makes it much easier if you do.

yes try tire cables there smaller in clearance than chains and as effective. they may be slightly more price wise but this should get you by. happy travels.

you may have to check in the trunk for an inspection panel or remove the gas tank to get to the fuel pump.

If you are referring to the thermostat for the radiator fan. You would need the correct socket wrench size or just the correct wrench size to get it out. You will know it is bad when the fan turns on immediately after cold start or even if it the temp gauge is at its lowest when the engine has been switched on. Otherwise it could be a bad fuse or relay for the fan if it does not turn on at any condition.
For AC thermostat. It is a lot more work as you will removed dashboard components and return things. First things out last ones in.
