Why does the temp gauge indicate the car is running hot when it is not?

Ahh ... the gas gauge / fuel level gauge does not work, either.

Maybe you need to replace the motors that are behind those dials. People are getting charged $300-$500 to have the fuel gauge replaced when the problem really is the little motor - 5 or 6 of them for less than $30. 2003 Buick LeSabre owners are having the same problem with their fuel gauges being erratic.

Why fuel guage is not working

Hi dear,
If the fuel gauge does not work must be verified:
1. gasoline pump gauge wire if it is cut
2. Remove the gasoline pump and check the float arm if it is stuck
3 . Electronic Resistance in the gasoline pump damaged and need to replace

Honda accord 95 gas gauge not working

Hi, The Sending UnitThe sending unit is located in the fuel tank of the car. It consists of a float, usually made of foam, connected to a thin, metal rod. The end of the rod is mounted to a variable resistor. A resistor is an electrical device that resists the flow of electricity. The more resistance there is, the less current will flow. In a fuel tank, the variable resistor consists of a strip of resistive material connected on one side to the ground. A wiper connected to the gauge slides along this strip of material, conducting the current from the gauge to the resistor. If the wiper is close to the grounded side of the strip, there is less resistive material in the path of the current, so the resistance is small. If the wiper is at the other end of the strip, there is more resistive material in the current's path, so the resistance is large.First of all, the guage needs a 12 volt electrical supply to operate. The entire system extends from the fuse block inside the front passenger compartment, through a resister (which lowers the voltage), on to the float assembly inside the gas tank then on back to the fuel guage itself,

First , test the fuse responsible for the fuel guage. Note: this fuse is usualy responsible for the fuel guage only or several items.

If the fuse checks OK, then a check must be made to troubleshoot the entire length of the system or until the problem is located.

If the fuel tank sending unit is faulty, the fuel guage can read any position, including full or empty. The sending unit can be tested by first checking to see if the unit can be removed from the fuel ttank by either partially or fully lowering the tank.

Prior to removing the sending unit, check to ensure there is voltage at the wires leading into the fuel tank.

With voltage confirmed, remove the unit and check for continuity at each end of the float arms travel .with a multimeter If the unit does not check good, replace the unit. Note: Sometimes after a long time in service the strip of resistive material can wear through and plainly be seen.

If the unit checks good, there could be a bad ground somewhere along the line.

If all else checks good, then the fault most likely is a bad fuel guage. The guage also can be tested by applying varying degrees of voltage (0-12VDC ONLY) to the teminals at the rear of the guage.

If the guage is bad, it must be replaced.

I hope this information has been of assisstance to you,
Randy Atchley

Chevy jmpala 03 gas gauge doesnt work

unfortunatlly the fuel gas guage is located on the side of your fuel pump.located inside of the gas tank. it's called the fuel sending unit,if you choose to call an autozone or advance auto parts store, you'll know what to ask for price of. they do not sell only the sending unit, you have to purchase the entire fuel pump. which stinks in my opinion. you can find the entire pump used, but thats used. most parts places will guarantee the used fuel pump, but not the labor to replace it.in order to replace it,the gas tank will have to be removed.and alot of garages guage the cost of replacement on how much fuel is in the tank at the time of removal. in other words, the more the fuel, the more the cost. i can recommend a used parts place thats assisted me in the past and reliable, they also ship parts to your front door. but these are used parts only, and they do guarantee the part to work. call 1-865-690-4223 or 1-865-690-4607 in knoxville tn. they offer a wide choice of rebuildable wrecks and used auto parts nationwide and will ship to your door any parts you request.thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Does a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer have a fuel censor?

Hi, The 1999 blazer has a fuel level sensor mounted in the fuel tank. It is mounted to the module that contains the electric fuel pump. The tank must be removed in order to service this module assy. When the level sensor is faulty, it can cause the guage to read erratic, or incorrect. If the computer senses a fault with the sensor, the check engine light can come on, and the fuel guage can drop to empty. A code can set for the fuel level, and this sensor can be replaced seperate. Good luck... Coop

1987 fuel level guage issue

thats funny, my 87 F250 does the same thing. At 80 bucks a sender unit I have learned to live with it even tho this is what I do for a living.

The reason fuel gauges fail is because of sulfur in fuels.

Do a search on sulfur and fuel sender units failures and you will find your complaint is the same as the masses.

Your problem is fuel gauge is hanging up on the fuel pump. The slide bar/fuel sender is located inside the fuel tank alongside the fuel pump. Today I removed my fuel tank and replaced the pick up strainer on my fuel pump and previously my fuel gauge didn't work, but all I needed to do was slightly bend the slide mechanism and my fuel reading read correctly on my gauge. Previous to that I showed no reading on the dash meter.
