If you look up the engine code on "Yahoo" C - 740 means you have a problem with the "Torque Convertor", or sensor. Dodge transmissions are known for this.

Had 3 codes pop up for a 2008 nissan altima 2.5s

Fault codes rarely cause any drivability related symptoms.
P0740 NISSAN - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Fault
Possible causes
  • Low transmission fluid level
  • Dirty transmission fluid
  • Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
  • Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
  • Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection

  • P0826 means there is an issue with a circuit for the up and down switch, usually due to a disabled manual shifter or TCM placed in Limo-in mode.
  • The presence of a stored code P0725 means that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a circuit malfunction with the engine speed sensor input signal. The engine speed input sensor is sometimes called the transmission input speed sensor and the input speed sensor. This type of code may be caused by a mechanical problem or an electrical problem

check the wiring and connections for clean / tight connections have the TCM tested or replaced
take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop to check the solenoid operation and test of the TCM or for a proper diagnosis of the problem

I got an engine light code po 742 what does that mean?

The code means that the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) in your transmission is staying engaged after the computer has commanded it off. This could be caused by a sticking TCC Solenoid, By internal hydraulic pressure leakage, by a faulty Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit, or a faulty Powertrain Control Module.

If your engine has been stalling when you come to a stop - especially after getting off of the highway, then you probably have a sticking TCC Solenoid.

This really needs to be diagnosed properly to keep from spending a bunch of money on parts unneccessariily.

TCC SOLENIOD FAILDED VAlVE / code 0740/ open or short circult

That's your torque converter clutch solenoid, Looks like need replace and if not, You transmission will not survive for long because it needs that Solenoid. Not hard to change and you might need to take the valve body cover to access to the part. Good luck

I have 97 Acura RL 3.5/V6, got 'Check Engine Light' on (OBD Code P0740) about a year, my car is running OK, except slightly low fuel economy (19 Miles/Gallon). My questions are: 1)Could it be just Solenoid...

it will be a solenoid
the code p 0740 refers to torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid ---circuit malfunction===causes --wiring--TCC-- ECM /? TCM ( transmission control module
it is not a transmission problem so leave it alone
it is an electronic control problem so check wiring and connections and if it is either the solenoid or the TCM replace what is faulty
take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop have an tranny oil change done , have the bands and clutch pack s adjusted and have them check the TCC solenoid and TCM for correct operation
probably find that there will be an improvement in the fuel consumption after that
