I have a 4 cyl 2001 toyota camry. I hear a ticking noise which sounds like it's originating from the engine compartment. The noise is RPM sensitive -- it speeds up as the tach climbs. Now, I say "ticking noise" for lack of a better description. I'm at a loss to describe this any better. It's not an obnoxious tick, but it is audible, especially under acceleration. I was told that the lifters need adjusting...oil pressure is good..oil light never came on..what do you think the problem is?

depending on what engine, you may have adjustible lifters. aIf it doesn't you may have a lifter bleeding down. you may want to try a bottle of lucas additive your next oil chang.

Put some honey-like STP oil treatment into the oil. I have done this and relieved ticking from lifters. Unless the oil level is really low, the lifters should adjust themselves. So check oil level. If it is low, add oil. After a drive, the ticking should go away.

Did you ever find out what's wrong with it? I have a 2000 toyota solara that's doing the same thing. I don't think it's the lifters problem since the sound is only observed during driving.
1999 Toyota Camry make a chirp and click noise when giving gas to the accelerator
