Many of these trucks have a mazda trans in them, to remove these shifters you will need to remove the 4 phillips head screws from the corners of the trim around the shifter boot and pull it up out of your way. it's not necessary to remove the boot from the shifter, just lift it up for access to the top of the trans. at the base of the shifter on the top of the trans you will see a plate attached with torx head screws. remove all but 2 of them, now make sure the trans is in neutral and remove the last 2 screws and pull the shifter straight up. the shifter is now out leaving a big hole open on the top of the trans for dirt to fal into so put a wrag in it or screw a piece of cardboard to it. installation is the reverse. good luck

The gear shift lever(on the automatic transmission) won't shift the truck into gear how do i fix it

If the lever is moving very easy and doesn't have the normal clicking feel, then most likely, part of the linkage has become disconnected. It will all be on the drivers side, so crawl under the truck and have someone shift the linkage with the truck OFF and you should spot the fault. If all seems normal and you see the lever moving on the transmission, then either the trans is bad, or simply too low on fluid to operate OR has a completely plugged filter...

If your problem is that you can't move the shift lever, some require that you put your foot on the brake before the shift lever is unlocked. It is either cable or electrically locked. If that is the case, you can bypass the lockout by removing the steering column cover and pu;;ing the cable or solenoid. I don't remember the exact procedure, but as I recall, it is relatively simple to do.

Automatic shift lever won't shift the truck into gear we can shift it manually underneath the truck into gear but the lever isn't shifting the linkage

the linkage has slipped and is not in the notch on the shift lever so slide he shift lever into place then tighten the bolt down so it will hold the shifter on the trasnmisson, this is caused by a loose nut on the shifter nut.

How do i remove the manual gear selector on a 93 ranger

remove the knob or slide the rubber boot up the shifter. there are 4 screws under the floor mat that hold the boot in place. after the boot you should see four more bolts holding the shifter in place, they are usually 10mm socket. remove them and remove shifter from the top of trans.

****! 1989 Ranger stuck shifter on new clutch!

Somehow you have it stuck in two gears. If I remember correctly your shift mechanism is inside the unit. If so, you will need to remove the trans and the cover, then re-position the shift forks. If you get lucky, you may be able to free it up by wiggling the shift lever but I doubt it.
Do not run it 'till you manage to free it up or you can break a gear. If you removed shifter when working on it, first check that you put it back in correctly before tearing everything apart!

93 ranger4x4 standard shifts out of gear when i letup on the gas

Barring anything actually pushing on the shifter, this going to be an issue with wear in the transmission. The synchronizers are worn and when unloaded slip back out of gear. Its going to be a case of a $20 part that costs a lot more to replace! You have a few choices,

1.: Get by as long as possible as is...
2. Get it repaired (that means remove the tyranny, break it down and replace the worn syncros)
3. Replace the tyranny with a good used one. These are common and probably cheaper that the repair.
