Check the Neutral Safety Switch. This happened to me so often that I had an over ride starter button installed under the dash

continued here . Then the back up lights went out. Finally one young mechanic figured it out. Replaced the Neutral Safety Switch and never had a problem since. It's spending, but what are you going to do without it.

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee will start fine after it sits overnight or for a hour or so but won t start if i go to the store and get in it five minutes later. After 1 hour it cranks right up

Sounds like a fuel mixture issue, being a 2003 must be EFI, could be faulty mass air flow sensor, fuel mixtures being to rich when engine is at operating temp.

I have a 96 jeep grand cherokee with a 4.0 It runs fine but then dies at random and wont start again until it sits for a while. Like i say it dies totally at random. Im thinking a sensor, anyone have

First I suggest scanned the fault codes stored there; turn the ignition key (without start engine) "on/off on/off on" and read odometer codes Pxxxx. Note this codes and send us for other details.

Keep in touch.

My 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2L is very difficult to start if it has not been run in the previous 6 hours. Replaced ignition coil but didn't solve the problem. After sitting overnight it

Low fuel pressure.
You need to check the fuel pressure on the first crank and watch it as it is running.
Requires a special gauge.
If it were just a starting problem I would say it could be a pump relay, but not if it runs rough for 5 min.
Might be a dirty filter or problem in the tank.

Park jeep overnight and now it won't start, changed fuel filter and relay checked fuel pump which worked fine, the problem is that it will crank over but that's it, you don't hear the fuel pump kick on,...

sometimes the neutral safety switch goes out and thus it doesn't start... I had that go out in my 96 jeep cherokee sport 4x4... changed the fuel pump out and then found out... I had it changed so I don't know how to do that part.... anyway hope that helps

1998 Jeep Cherokee -- car won't start. Turns over

have scanned to find problem code to get an idea of what it is. .it may either be the crank or cam sensor, check the crank sensor first. if it is bad it sends wrong timing info to pcm. therefore jeep will not start!! It is either the camshaft or crankshaft positioner. I would check the crank pos. first. Zach Cabot, AR

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo It sat

Try gently tapping the starter motor with a hammer or bar. There may be a bad contact in the sollenoid or the starter motor brushes worn to their limit. Tapping may give you a tempory fix if the problem lies in the starter motor.
