My 2004 nissan murano every now and then there is coolant smell real strong. Sometimes it even smokes near my firewall. I'm not losing any coolant and my engine isnt overheating. What could it be

  • Anthony Hubbard Oct 13, 2019

I was able to stop the smell of coolant but I'm still getting a light smoke towards the firewall. I think I have a blown gasket for my valve cover, but wont know anymore till i take everything apart.

You might have restriction in the exhaust either by bent tail pipe or clogged muffler or catalytic converter

Check power steering rubber hoses for a leak . better if you get someone to turn your steering wheel with the bonnet up so you can see if power steering fluid is being sprayed onto the manifold

SOURCE: White Smoke that smells liek fuel, but not overheating

It sounds like the rings are washed out for some reason. any chance you filled up at a gas station with water in there gas ? if it was me I would do a compression test and see if it is low , and it sounds like it might be then leave the plugs out and put oil in each cly turn engine over a few times and let sit over night or at least serveral hours , this will free the rings up , fuel and miss fires will wash the rings out and running will get you white smoke , after oil has set in cyl now you have to clean it out if you have qa air compressor you can shoot air into each keeping a rag over so you dont make a mess, and you can keeping one end in hand send a rag down to soak it up, you will most likely have to pull the plugs out and clean them with break clean a few times till the engine will stay running once it stays running it will smoke until the oil is gone but the compression should be back to normal and cleared up it might smoke for over an hour once you get it running you can hold throttle to 2000 rpm as well this helps a bunch. but find out where compression should be and check it . I think some how either the missfire or bad gas. did you replace any coils or coil pack ? is the miss fire gone?

SOURCE: 96 cavalier overheating

You have a front wheel drive car so it requires and electric fan motor which in turn requires a temp sensor to tell it to turn on. The sensor should be on the radiator itself. Check that the connector to the senor and the motor are tight and if the wiring checks ok then I'd go for the sensor first.
The reason it cools while driving is the natural flow of air at driving speed.

SOURCE: My 2001 ford windstar lx van smells like coolant when i drive

Several things to check. Have the cooling system pressure checked. A quick and simple test. Puts system under pressure and helps to locate a leak. The coolant doesn't just go away, it's got to be leaking either externally or internally. Be sure that the radiator cap is checked too. It needs to maintain the proper pressure for the system
Sound like coolant is leaking on the exhaust system. This can result in the smell and you will not see a leak as it is evaporating when it hits the hot pipes.

SOURCE: 2004 Nissan Murano, back door can't open

I had a similar problem with a sienna and sometimes the cable ( inside the door) between the handle and the latch gets stuck in the sleeve. Kind of like the brake cable on a bike.
take the panel off by removing all the screws you can see on the panel and pull the panel off. There will be plastic pins holding it. Some of them may pop off and some will break off.
Drip oil down the sleeve so the cable slides freely. I used bike chain oil. Do not use WD40. This is **** and will not work for very long. Try the handles a few times before you put the panel back.

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano and it's been stalling and jerking with strong gas smells coming inside car.

Question edited for clarity, punctuation and spelling.

There are lots of ideas here, but due to the fact you can smell gas, clean the Throttle Body with spray cleaner. It isn't shutting properly. Clean the MAF (Mass Air Fuel) sensor as well.

I am experiencing water in the floor in front only, where could it be coming from?

Is this water or engine coolant? If it's water then the Air conditioning condensate drain may be plugged. Water can also enter if the body sealant has dried out where the firewall meets the body at the A post. If it's engine coolant then the heater core is leaking into the air box.

I have a 2004 Nissan Murano and im experiencing a strong gas smell when first cracked up and after driving..my dad checked exhaust underneath and there is no leaks or cracks in exhaust and he checked for...

Under the rear seat area you will find two covers for each side of the fuel tank. I believe the passenger side one is the fuel level sensor. The part at nissan is under 100.00..and any good mechanic you deal with should be able to repair this. I would suggest trying to replace the level sensor first to correct the fuel gage issue. I worked at a Nissan dealer and we did a ton of these. The fuel pump is located under the other cover and has its own sending unit and level sensor. Its best to replace both but being the the fuel pump one is built into the unit its not very cost effective. Try the stand alone one first and if needed replace the other one afterwards. As far as the fuel smell... I still think you may have a flodded charcoal canister near the fuel tank or even a small hole in the tank. Nissan had a recall on the earlier Murano fuel tank because its location made it prone to damage. The fix was to install a shield on the tank. Please update new finidings

1999 gmc youkon missing real bad lots of white smoke smells like straight gas done complete tune up nothing changes help

White smoke would indicate you're burning engine coolant. Black smoke is usually raw unburned fuel, and bluish smoke is oil. Has the engine overheated recently? Is it losing coolant without any external signs of a coolant leak? You may want to do a block check to see if you have a blown head gasket....

Found a leak coming from the outside grill and runs down the inside and into my drivers well , can you help

If there is a leak getting into the passenger compartment from the 'firewall' it usually indicates a leaking heater core. Smell the leak and if it smells like antifreeze it is the heater core. If it has no smell and is clear then the drain tube from the defroster vent is plugged up causing the condensation from the AC/defroster to leak inside the vehicle.

2004 Freelander Coolant Leak

With problems like this the only sure way is to go to a workshop and get them to pressure test the cooling system, that is if you dont have a pressure tester yourself. Then it should be seen where you are losing coolant. It may leak from any where, hoses, loose clips, even the filler cap. Is there any sign of antifreeze that has dried
hope this helps
