He may have activated the alarm system which will cause a no start condition. Cycle the key in the door to lock and unlock several times. That should correct it. If he shorted something I would start checking fuses. Start with the fuel pump fuse then check them ALL if it still has an issue.

SOURCE: 2001 volvo s60 has imobolizer active. Will not

When you disconnect the battery, short the posative and negative cables together for 5 minutes. Then reconnect the battery and try to start it. If this doesn't work, the car will have to be scanned with Vida at a Volvo dealer or an independant shop that has Vida.

SOURCE: How do you disconnect the kill switch on a toyota

Unplug the relay under the dash this will save you a lot headache. The relay is the black box that looks out of place in the mist of the wires. Unplug the side closest to the steering wheel.

SOURCE: Replaced the alternator on a 2008 Volvo C70 T5. Forgot to disconnect battery. Battery to Alternator touched chassis All lights and radio work but car won’t start.

Check battery voltage could have lowered voltage below what is required to crank starter. Do this have someone jump you or if u have a jump pack connect it and try to start car if it starts you will be running off the pack. If this happens charge battery. Starters take a lot of power to activate. I have seen batteries go below the proper voltage to start vehicle but still allow the lights to work.

could have blown the starter relay or fuse

I changed my car battery in a Fiat Punto and now the car refuses to start. It appears the immoboliser has activated

An immobiliser is generally a passive anti theft system (PATS) which uses an ignition key that has a coded transponder embedded in it. It is activated by being in close proximity to an antenna which is near or around the ignition steering lock. If the code in the key matches the code in the module and everything is working correctly the engine management switches on - simply put, the immobiliser engages or activates when the key is removed and should deactivate when the key is inserted.

It is possible the system developed amnesia and forgot the code when the battery was disconnected or maybe something broke. I really don't know much about them.
A trick that sometimes works - try disconnecting the battery overnight and in the morning open the car, put the key in the ignition and switch on and then go and connect the battery.

If that doesn'y work you will need the services of an auto locksmith or the dealer.

Changed the battery and it set off the alarm. it seams like it activated a kill switch of some kind. is there a way to reset it?

You probably had your alarm set when you took out the old one. Just unlock your doors with your key fob, then disconnect the battery again for a few minutes and let it reset with the alarm off.

1997 850 volvo, when i manually open door with key, the car won't start and lights flash....so now only use the remote, Now remote won't work - had new battery in remote- suggestions on how to lock doors?

Try this trick, push the lock button once your in the car to unlock first then lock then unlock again, your kill switch is activated as anyone could unlock the door with a key, but to be linked together via bluetooth remote is exclusive and good practice if you choose to stop a thief

I have a 1999 civic, Eddie Jordan Edition, and I just got back from deployment. I knew my battery was dead prior to getting back, however it was a new battery that I had put in prior to leaving. Anyway,...

parked dead batteries, Sulphate and die fast, LEAD/ACID CELLS ALL DO THAT .

CAR Is now modified. and you never told the exact product.
there are many products, seen them all (pro grade), but you don't know.
ex: 1: simple lug switch.
ex 2: a fancy device on the battery lug the senses low battery and
automatically disonncect it (with emergency bypass)
ex.3; some one wild idea ,and NFG. show me photos of wild and i can tell you why it wont work or why it will catch fire.

next time, put the battery on the bench and use a float charger. 24/7

it will last 10 years or more like that.. really.

and thanks for keying those bad guys at bay ! (im a viet nam vet)

to deploy do above float , and fog oil the engine.
do what the boaters do.. its not hard to do at all.
keeps rings from rusting and valves faces and seats.

ps> a bet way to have a kill switch (not battery type) is add a fuel pump hot wire, kill switch that only you know were it is and is
not in the engine bay or in easy sight. best of best. mines behind plastic panels, hint ,hint.

1997 V90 VOLVO STATION WAGON alarm was activated can't start car. I have no key remote and don't know how to shut off. My vehicle wash just purchased used. I don't know what to do

You should be able to disable the alarm by putting the key in the door and turning it, or by putting it in the igintion switch and turning it. One of the two should disarm the alarm. If that will not work, then you could disconnect the battery, call the dealer and get a key fob for the alarm system.

Brake light switch on 2001 volvo s40=my brake lights work sometimes and don't work sometimes. I have checked all fuses and bulbs. I have tried fiddling with the brake light switch and can make the brake...

Yes switch is the problem. Volvo claim they sell very few switches, probably because people bought new cars instead. Problem can be associated with failed ignition coils (2 of) but one does not cause the other but very confusing. Engine fails intermittently or conks out.
Reset battery earth connection on chassis bad design here. Clean off paint and thread also bolt coating. Even better, use brass bolt but do not overtighten. Volvo will try to get you to replace alternator which is not necessary.
Failing battery will light up all the warning lights but will not isolate the battery so if it shorts car will die and not run on alternator. If this happens disconnect battery until you get to garage.
Now you know you can buy an old S40 with confidence great car and very cheap for what you get.
