So my 2004 Tiburon is sending out a output speed sensor error code. It was replaced with a new one and ther problem is still not fixed. What else could be causing the output speed sensor to malfunction?
Dear friend:plse make sure that you replaced the output sensor and not the input speed sensor.the output speed sensor is the one closer to the fire wall,

there several speed sensors 1 on every wheel for abs called wheel speed sensor and in transfer case 4wd or awd call output shaft speed sensor or vehicle speed sensor and input shaft speed sensor which can be a computer generated signal from crankshaft sensor and output shaft speed sensor this is to determine torque converter lock up.
code p0720 refers to output shaft speed sensor(OSS)--circuit malfunction====causes--wiring--OSS sensor--ECM/TCM
of it has just happened check the wiring and connections to the transmission for water and corrosion or replace the OSS sensor in the transmission.
cant help with a pic iam afraid but look on the diff housing passenger side and on top is the speed sensor ,their is no input sensor it just goes to the computer and from their to the dash ,it could be the sensor or the nylon drive gear ,you can check the sensor with a multimeter once you get it out
replace the output speed sensor on you 4 speed trans, 3.3 engines only
have 4 speed transmissions. The output sensor is located next to the
transfer gear. Or if you are looking the two sensors, it would be the
one on the right.
P700 = PCM has a transmission code in the EATX controller, and P0731=
Gear ratio error in 1st. Replace the output speed sensor and clear the
codes.
Ther are more than one type of speed sensor for jeeps....I am chrysler jeep tech...there are 2 speed sensors on the trans and also speed sensors at the wheels (IF IT HAS ABS)...Normally the engine speed is done by an IAC Motor...If you are meaning idle...Can you send more information....
Also you may have a vacum leak..........You have an Input speed sensor and an output speed sensor ....Do you know exactly which it is ....Both are at transmission /If 4 wheel drive see transfer case also.I have the manual at my fingertips and will be glad to assist you with any problems............................I can help................metalpoet
WHEN MONITORED
The transmission gear ratio is monitored continuously while the transmission is in gear.
SET CONDITION
If there is an excessive change in output RPM in any gear. This DTC can take up to five minutes of problem identification before illuminating the M.I.L.

Hyundai VSS locations: On 1999-2003 vehicles, the vehicle speed sensor is built into the
speedometer. On 2004-2005 vehicles, the vehicle speed sensor is attached
to the output shaft of the transaxle.

P1529 indicates that your TCM asked the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.
The range switch and the output speed sensors are the items that are
abnormally affecting the operation of the transmission. The diagnostic
logic in your computer can distinguish these issues from one another,
so you'll definitely want to do both. You have no diagnostic code for
the input speed sensor (P0715) listed, so I have made no recommendation
to replace it. In my opinion, it's not a labor-intensive repair, so I
wouldn't recommend replacing it unless you have reason to believe it's
bad.
DTC - P0720 (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system
If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50%
lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd
or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open
circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and
diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code
No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd
gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM
DTC - P0715 (INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0715 input shaft speed sensor system
If no output pulse is detected from the input shaft speed sensor for 1
second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h
(19 mph) or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit
in the input shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0715
is output. If diagnostic trouble code P0715 is output four times, the
transaxle is locked into 3rd gear or 2nd gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the input shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the underdrive clutch retainer
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM
Priced new output speed sensor €190, went to breakers yard, found similar sensor on mitsubsihi carisma, purchased €20, fitted same no problems since. Touch wood!
