This is possible the overdrive switch is deactivated and you don't know it because the bulb is burned out and your missing that shift point and rpm's high ,but is it slipping coming out of gear with high rpm's there's a difference the code 760 is a solenoid c malfunction that's coming up and could be the first description or the second one if it's just not shifting with no slipping and coming out of gear it's the solenoid switch that has failed and you can still drive it till you get the cash to fix it but NO HIGHWAY JUST LOCAL EASY DRIVING WILL NOT KILL YOUR CAR THE OVERTIME DOESN'T HAPPEN TILL AFTER 35MPH AND IT WOULD BE THE EQUIVALENT OF DRIVING A STICK IN 3RD GEAR OF A 4 SPEED MANUAL OR 4TH IN A 5 SPEED JUST LIGHT DRIVING BACK N FORTH TO WORK OR WHATEVER GO TO ROCKAUTO.COM AND LOOK UP YOUR VEHICLE AND THEN THE PART IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SECTION THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST FOR THIS AND ALL PARTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE U.S.A. AND WILL SHIP WORLD WIDE GOOD LUCK STEPHEN

Solenoid #3 not shifting. Check transmission fluid level and if it's more than 40k miles old, change it. If it still stuck, get it diagnosed and repaired before u mess up the transmission or the engine by running it at high rpms

SOURCE: need size of battery for 2000 ford focus

Dependant on engine size and fuel type, any size from a 390 amp battery, if it is diesel then a 590 amp battery. No special tools needed, only a small ring spanner. Make sure yyou disconnect the earth lead first. Also you will need to enter the radio code after changing batteries

SOURCE: 1998 ford f150 triton shifts hard sometimes then

the overdrive light blinking indicates a mechanical or electrical failure in the trans, there will be a trouble code or codes stored in the computer control module of the system, have a OBD 2 self test to determine that code(s), it is key to deciding the problem with the trans, but it is lioely the trans will need an overhaul but that all depends on the malfunction code you get.

SOURCE: 97 FORD F250 OVERDRIVE SWITCH LIGHT

My 1995 ford f150 doing it, i believe, either because of a loose plug on the transmission and/or vaccum leak, but very annoying. I dont think the transmission itself is bad because when the overdrive is not flashing it works perfect. going to have the electrical plugs and vaccum hoses looked at. The container in the engine that holds gas vapor may have something to do with the conditions that control this particular models transmission response, I.E. "kick down".

I have a 2003 ford focus with a 5sp manual transmission, i just got the wheel bearing fixed and now my car idles at regular 1800 rpms, but i lost all power essentially my shift light is always on even in...

If your car lacks power it needs the extra RPMs to push the weight of the vehicle. Most cars idle smoothly at about 700 RPMs. Check the engine compression on all cylinders. If they are all even (within 10lbs) and about 100 psi or more then you may just need a tune up or some work done on the fuel system. Hopefully the engine isn't running hot or has oil control problems which will require some major repairs.

I don't know your year, but transmissions shifting is partly controlled by the throttle position sensor. Have the computer check for codes. If the TPS comes up this is most likely your problem.

Sounds like you need to cover basics first. The battery cables are clean and tight? Are all the wires in the battery cable at the battery making a good connection? Sounds like a common problem and is in the service bullitins is that the ground wire attached to the battery cable end that goes to the body and then to the transmission case bolt has failed to provide a good ground and the acuators and servos and even the switches have'nt a good path to ground ( their is one but it's though other controllers and the power isn't strongly grounded. I f you were following a dianostic tree of good and bad the ground is the number one cause of your problem. Don't fix the old grounds just add new ones. and then clear codes and test it again. Oil leaks near the transmission to engine connection were found by me everytime that I was assigned to this set of problems. Ground corrected and the car was fixed.

Transmission-overdrive not working properly

check the transmission fluid first .

overdrive allows the engine to run at lower RPM's , which increases the fuel
economy and also the transmission runs cooler
