Hi Kelly Burd, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Did you have the ECU PROGRAMMED to your vehicle,as a straight swap will not work as each vehicle is different.

This code is a transmission code and it sounds like your fluid us very dirty and it has a lot of clutch pack metal shavings in the pan if so those shavings have clogged up the shift solenoids and they need replacement with a fresh filter and fluid with the pan cleaned out but both Lorenzo and Graham are also right the TCM is very rarely the problem most times its the shift solenoids or the pressure solenoid that's malfunctioning

If you've already spent that kind of money on it, get it live scanned to determene what's causing the issue otherwise you'll be guessing and throwing money into an unknown problem.

SOURCE: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee put in drive then turn it off restart it put in drive then drive turn to 3 feels like stuck on low gear

The transmission is going into limp mode. You need a special scan tool capable of communicating with the transmission control module in order to find out what is causing the problem

SOURCE: I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee 3.0crd. It will go into limp mode randomly. if the vehicle is switch of and on again it runs fine. jeep dealer says there is no problem and the vehicle is 100% fine.

See if you can pull a code on this when the engine light comes on, that will greatly help.

Mechanics advised that gearbox needs replace after diagnostic Of codes . Dash light still on after codes being read , have had ecu replaced 2yrs ago ? What do you think it could be , thanks phil

didnt specify vehicle --generic answer--until repair is made the vehicle will show engine light and have codes --if gearbox is problem for limp mode /until repairs are made or gearbox replaced you will be in limp mode --and as to sensor find out what one it was --start problem may show back up if sensor was problem --and GET a 3rd opinion you have 2 mechanics with different opinions on your problem and i guess they are reading your trouble codes differently

My 05 Pacifica went into "limp in" mode which means it is stuck in 2nd gear. I took it to AutoZone and put it on the code machine. It pulled up P0700, P0715, P0731 and P0733. I changed out hte Speed Sensor...

Well code 700 is a generic code that means there is a problem with the transmission or the control module. Code 731 is for a problem with first gear which would explain why it stays in second gear.
Someone will need to check the circuits involved with first gear and the trans control module. A shop manual will be necessary to get the testing procedures.

Limp mode?

It may have a "loss of prime" code that usually follows a service of the fluid and filter. After you're sure the fluid is full at operating temperature, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to see if the code resets. I hope this helps.

3rd gear

If it'll only stay in second, you're in "limp mode" which the car goes into when it detects a problem that higher speeds could make worse. Have the car scanned for chassis and drivetrain fault codes at a shop (these don't always trip a check engine light, so even if the light is out, you may still have a code). If there's a fault, it should be logged in the memory, and that can be used to track down the problem.
