I had unknowingly dropped my key while unloading a box from car. My car fully loaded car was stolen. The police found it a week later with stolen plates and thoroughly got thru and gutted. The thieves kept my only chipped key. Was able to get rekeyed, jumped and taken bone. Had to stop cleaning it and locked it up. Later it unlocked but battery was dead. Came back a couple of days later to charge but now I'm locked out (key will not unlock car. I wasn't aware that a key into the lock wouldn't manually unlock when the battery's dead. I haven't had any income for many months so have no money to get help to get into car or under the hood to charge the battery. Any help to unlock car and/or how to get hood opened would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Becky S
I feel your frustration, Becky. Call a tow truck. Tell them you're locked out of your car. They can open it for a fraction of the cost of a locksmith.

first thing you should do is try to have a shop open the door with a beak in kit. if they can't get the door open this way the door trim panel will have to be pryed off. it is difficult to do with the door closed but it can be done. the trim pane will probably be ruined during removal. once the trim panel is removed the door latch can be released from the inside.

Its possible that wires that go from the body to the door have worn, and now cause a short, which causes the malfunction in your locks. After 11 years of open and closing, this type of thing happens on many makes.
The only solution is to inspect the wires and check to see if any are chaffed or broken and use electrical tape or a liquid insulation to repair.

If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.
