Thermastat is sticking an the clutch fans along with good speed is keeping it from blowing up I'm guessing at its worst when you stop you hear bubbling sound? If not just a matter of time. Get the therm replaced an make sure u get the factory replacement someone could of put a hotter therm in order to get better heat in winter or the mods your doing are causing the extra heat next MOD would be a bumped up intercooler along with the water pump that's my answer hope it helps.

If the fan is properly working you may want to replace the coolant sensor for the computer, it’s not the one for your gauge or temperature warning light this one is the computer’s temperature sensor that the engine uses when your car is up to temperature and the computer will switch to a closed loop that helps the computer to fine tune the fuel mixture, if this sensor is not operating properly the engine will never go to a closed loop status and you will notice your fuel mileage drop noticeable.

i check the temperature sensor with a multimeter the reading was 1.73 when engine cold, and 0.46 when engine hot, is those correct number? i don't have no temperature sensor code.

SOURCE: where is the thermostat located on my 2006 Saturn ion 2.2L?

Under the thermostat housing mounted on the engine at the "engine side" of the upper radiator hose. That "usually" happens when the thermos is stuck open & the computer is getting cool readings from the anti freeze because its flowing too freely. More fuel is added due to bad temp readings. Drain some coolant, remove rad cap, remove thermos housing, Clean gasket or r/r O ring & replace thermostat. Reinstall. Refill cooling system, let it run.refill overflow bottle after warmed up. Ck for heat & leaks. Good luck

SOURCE: what is causing my 2006 saturn ion 2.2L to burn a lots of gas will a thermostat cause it to burn more gas?

code p 0128 refers to coolant thermostat--coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature ===causes mechanical fault
For that code to appear the answer is most likely yes --it will affect fuel economy
Why because if the coolant is free to flow then the engine operating temp is not reached and so the engine coolant sensor reports that the engine needs more fuel and the air fuel mixture is adjusted to rich as a result
indicates a thermostat that is stuck open

91 Geo Storm Gsi running just fine, one day I lost power driving 65, check engine light came on and was flickering, mph arm going up and down but didn't die then. Then it was ok.That happened 2 times...

Most engines don't fair well under extreme heat. It's apparent you might have some electrical issue's. Your rpm's or mph arm going up and down could be faulty speed sensor would cause arm problem. I think you may have more than one problem, the car shutting off is due to engine over-heating. Check cooling system-thermostat, water pump, radiator, engine fans and coolant temp sensor and fan relay's. It could be as simple as blown radiator hose.

Check engine dash icon suddenly came on. Car has

A lot of diffrerent things can cause the check engine icon to come on.
Good idea to have the 2006 ION scanned by a technician with their equipment to pinpoint the problem.

I would not say anything else until more data is gathered.

Good luck on this one.

Same Problem, warm air at low RPM's 2006 Saturn Vue

I agree with philip, i have not studied the electrical system. but to my best guess the electric fans are tied into the engine cooling system. when the engine is not requesting the fans to come on. then their is very little air passing threw the cooling package. When their is no cool air passing by the condenser this will not draw the heat out of the refrigerant leaving excess heat in the system and when the cab fan blows this is were the excess heat is getting dumped. then at higher speeds their is enough air passing threw the condenser and radiator to cool them both.
