I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The drivers side windshield wiper scrapes and bounces across the windshield and makes a loud scraping noise unless there is a lot of water on the windshield or I have the wipers working at top speed. I have replaced the blade 3 times and have cleaned the windshield several times as well as the blade but the problem won't go away. Any ideas?

Try to remember when it stopped working. Was it due to heavy snow on the windshield? Did it start making noise before dying? This can pinpoint the answer to your question. Usually it is 2 possibilities, fuse is blown or the motor is burnt. Try the fuse first. Good luck!
Is your wiper fluid level good?Look for leaks at pump,it's connected to container, also check your hoses leaving pump to windshield, could be loose or binding.
First, do not use them or you will do damage to the windshield itself...You need to drive it to an auto parts store and have the blades checked or the arms replaced-you will only pay for the parts, they ill install them for free.
It sounds like the arm or stud or both may have stripped out. If there is a cap on the bottom of the arm there may be a nut under it. Take a look the nut might just have to be tightned. If not then remove the arm and look carefully at the arm and stud. If these appear to be ok chances are the link under the cowl that connects the left wiper link to right wiper link has broken. Good luck!
SO WHICH ONE?... DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S?
Never mind!.. if BOTH have stopped working, then it's the motor.. IF ONLY ONE has stopped working, it's the retaining nut!
Sounds like a bearing packing up. Could be a siezing alternator, which would put enough of a strain on the engine to make it cut out. Does the pitch of the noise increase with speed?
