2003 Camry won't stay idling after I changed battery

My 2003 3.0 V6 Camry won't stay idling. I just changed the battery because the old one ws shot. Now it starts up great and dies out. I can drive it but when i come to a stop or turn a corner slow it stalls. It starts back up and will run in park with my foot on the gas. When i take my foot off it dies out. It was running fine before that and there's no check engine light on. I checked the ETCS fuse and its not blown. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you, I can give it a shot. Only one thing, I'm not very mechanical and I don't know where the intake hoses are and the throttle body. I suppose I can figure it out though.

This is extremely common :)

With time your throttle body gets gummed up with oily residue from the PCV system. As this happens, the computer adapts to the restriction it causes in the throttle body.
When you unhook the battery, these learned values are lost and the default settings for idle control are used. Unfortunately the default settings are no longer sufficient to keep the idle correct with it all gummed up.

Take your intake hoses off the throttle bodies and clean the insides (open the throttle plates for better access) with a rag and some brake parts cleaner or throttle plate cleaner, available from your local parts store.

Reassemble and start the car, your idle problems should be gone immediately.

Follow the air filter behind the battery back and to the left, they split and have two hose clamps on the engine, that is the throttle body, take those two clamps off and clean inside the two round ports. be sure to open the plate inside to clean around it

Sorry I forgot you have the newer single throttle body... same instructions just only one to clean :)

Remove the hose circled, and clean inside the aluminum throttle body, pointed at with the arrow.

Have a 2003 Toyota Camry V6. Installed a new battery and then the car would not idle. If you kept your foot on the gas it would run fine but if you let off, stall. I disconnected and reconnected the battery a couple of times. No effect. Read your post and cleaned out the throttle body with some carb cleaner on a rag. Reassembled and it starts and runs like it is new. Idle issue gone. Thanks, great post.

2003 camry won't idle after battery change

This is very common. The computer has to "re-learn" how to control the engine idle. Give it a couple of drive cycles to learn what it needs to learn. The problem should go away by itself.

Low idle with vibration and turns off when in reverse of drive every now and then and stirring wheel feel like its going to lock when turnign but all fluids have been checked and ok battery and alternator...

4cyl or V6?? Start at cleaning/replacing the IAC valve(idle air control valve),MAF sensor(V6 only) and cleaning the intake. At this time, I recommend replacing the air filter and sparkplugs(if not done recently). The IAC valve may be dirty or defective causing rough, low, or no idle. hopefully this helps

2002 camry battery changed, dies in idle

When you take your battery out and put a new one in all your computer controls have to be reset. You need to drive the car at 55 MPH for 2 min or so, stop, go through normal drive cycle, stop and go and then if it don't straighten out you need to clean the throttle body and the idle air control valve. Hope this helps. PHil

Engine dies at idle, was slow to start

Two things that I would look at:

1.) The spark plugs should be changed at this mileage

2.) She may be having the beginnings of an Idle Control Valve ("IAC") failure.

The security LED blinking is normal

The horn issue may be a weak battery on the keyless entry remote transmitter
