SOURCE: Where is the transmission fluid drain plug for a 2000 Cougar

Your Ford has no drain plug, to change/drain the trans fluid u must remove the transmission pan, u may be able to lower fluid level with a fluid siphon pump (rated for oil) through the dipstick tube, harbor freight tools sells a pump for this purpose.

The vehicles, mechanically, are virtually identical. as long as the motor specs match then you can swap,if they don't then you'll neeed the tranny as well.

I need to know if the whole transmission needs to be taken out to change the transmission screen in a 98 mercury mystique? if not were is it located/

To change the filter it is located on the bottom of the transmission under the transmission pan. It looks kind of like the oil pan but of course on the transmission. Once you remove the pan, you will have to unbolt the transmission filter, from there you can replace. Make sure to drain the fluid first or you are going to make a huge mess. If your transmission dues not have a drain plug, then remove the fill bolt, and evacuated the fluid that way.

I think the transmission senser is bad on my 97 mystic how do we replace it

Which sensor are you wanting to replace? There are at least 12 sensors that input into the transmission computer and there are 5 solenoids that control the transmission. If you can give a diagnostic code or at least a symptom I may can lead you in the right direction.

Where is the transmission filter on a 97 mercury mystique

It is under the drain pan. There is not a filter like on the engine. You have to take off the pan. Then the filter is right there!

Timming belt

Inside of the top gear there is a hash mark, you need to turn the gear so that the hash mark is top center. (you need a second person to help you for the next step.) You then have to take the first spark plug out and stick a long screw driver inside of the hole. You then have to turn the bottom gear until the first cylinder comes all the way up. You then put the new belt on the car without moving the two gears.
