What engine? 3.0L 2 Valve? 4 Valve?
3.4L SHO engine?

The PCM (engine computer) fires the coils, but it is never the cause of a problem. I suspect it is the crankshaft position sensor on the front of the engine by the crank pulley. easy to change.

Crankshaft Position Sensor The crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) (6C315) is a variable reluctance sensor triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel located on the crankshaft pulley and damper. The signal generated from the crankshaft position sensor is called the crankshaft position (CKP) signal, which provides base timing and crankshaft speed (rpm) information to the ignition control module (ICM) (12K072). Base timing is set at 10±2 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) AND IS NOT ADJUSTABLE. The powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) will use this information with the spark advance information to determine ignition coil (12029) turn on or turn off time.

1998 Mercury Sable: car will not start, cranks over but no spark from spark plug wire. Is there a fuse or is there something not hooked up? Do I need a new coil?

If you have no spark, I would test the crankshaft position sensor. If it's not that then probably the coil pack. Without a crankshaft sensor signal, you will get no spark. Same goes for the coil pack. I would bet on the crankshaft position sensor being bad. Good luck.

1995 mercury sable no fire from ignition coil

MAke sure its in park( just move it though the gear shifts) sometimes the neutral switch gets sloppy age/usage/transmission swap etc. Check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. YES there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit). If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit). Check Relays and Fuses.

1998 Mercury Sable Cylinder 5 Misfire

I would try a spark plug first (cheapest) about $5 for a platinum plug. I would see if the spark plug is firing before putting it in. Pull the spark plug wire off of existing plug put it on the new plug and ground the plug. Crank over or start the engine, is it firing? If not spark plug wire would be the next cheapest. You may be able to get just one wire, but I would replace the whole set. If it still is not firing the coil pack is probably bad about $60-70. If it is firing in the above steps it could be the injector is not working. You could drive the car as is, but it would drive me nuts, I can't stand something that doesn't run right. You will naturally be low on power and probably not doing your gas mileage any good either.

I have a 1996 mercury sable that wont srat i pulled up at home about 2 hours later tried o leave and it did not start, i checked the coil pack for a spark and it gave no fire, so i replaced the coil pack...

Probably the crank sensor, do you hear the fuel pump 'buzz' when you turn on the key (not cranking the engine, just key on)? If you do hear the fuel pump (only lasts about 2 seconds), it may be the ignition module, otherwise it is probably the crank sensor.

1995 mercury sable.turn key and car cranks over but no spark from coil.

use a test light and see if power is going to the coil. if yes then use a spark tester from a auto parts store. it will have settings for your vehicle. if the spark is not big enough it's just the same as not having one. then change the coil. if you don't get power before the coil have the ignition control modual checked. if bad replace it. good luck.
