Can you say if the car has power brakes ABS ? To bleed the system you need a bleed kit this way is best .. . Or get someone to press peddle down and hold it there as you open and close the bleed screw .With bleed screw locked keep foot on peddle then you open the bleed screw as peddle gose down to the floor lock it up keep your eye on fluid container some have 2 compartments in there keep both topped up with fluid or air will get in the system .

SOURCE: no brakes

Hi Robert!

When bleeding the fronts and the pedal does not go down all the way, stand on the pedal HARD and see if it won't go down then...

The proper sequence is to bleed fronts FIRST... if you had done this, you probably could have avoided this problem... but no worry, it is just a nuisance!

If you still have a problem after trying this, you might have a master cylinder problem... the seals to the fronts might be leaking, not able to build pressure...

So try this and let me know how it goes, and DON't FORGET: Your rating is my ONLY compensation for helping you!

Thanks!

SOURCE: trying to bleed front abs

Why are you bleeding brakes in the first place? What was repaired or replaced? Double check the procedure on these items.
Items that would cause your delima: External leaks anywhere in the system
Internal leak in master cylinder.
Bleeding procedure : Use procedure specified by manufacturer

How do I change clutch fluid in a 97 Geo Prizm?

like all cars, with hyda. m/t clutch,
it is a stick right, all cars have clutch, old cars had a/t drain for clutch.
so my answer is for stick clutch M/C drain an fill.
so the cap tells you its DOT-3/4
so bleed it just like brakes, ever do those before.
if not watch any of 100s of youtube videos on that and clutch.
there are 5 ways to do it. (tools vary)
ill show 2man way
drain out 3/4 fluid from res. and fill to top with fresh)
i use a turkey baster, for 1buck.
you press pedal to floor.
person 2 opens bleed valve at the SLAVE>
then closes it as flow stops
person 2 yells, ok , repeat.
and repeats (all)until all old fluid is gone and fresh seen below.
that is it.

What the brake bleeding sequence for my 95 prizm? How do I know if the brake lines need to be repaired?

all basics....
longest to shortest order. just look at lines you can see where they go in 5min.
rusted or leaking or crushed lines are bad. super basics.
damaged, no , only the bleed valves were touched and yes they do break, and for sure in salt belt. (wiki that)
its needs bleeding,
if the MC and slaves (all parts) dont leak there is air in the system.
if all air is out (i use pressure bleeding) but if all out, then the MC is bad.
spongy is always air , bleed again, repeat.
get a book on brakes, see how to do bleeding 6 ways.
some ways are better, or like me I use 3 ways.
keep in mind , air wants to float up, and tell me which way are you using... 2man way? opposite of the float rule?
sure. its classic way and can be very hard.

When bleeding brakes the pedal doesn't go down after i open the bleeder screw but, fluid comes out?

It's bleeding by gravity. Here's what to do: you need a helper. Put a 2X4 or similar piece of wood or something under the brake pedal. Now have someone slowly pressing the pedal down, you open the bleed screw. When pedal hits bottom, have helper hold it there while you tighten bleeder. Repeat until no air bubbles come out of bleeder. Best practice is to put a small hose on bleed screw, and put end of hose into a small container partially filled with brake fluid, so the end of hose is submerged in fluid. When bleeder is opened, any trapped air in the system will come out as bubbles. No more bubbles, no more air in that part. Check brake reservoir, fill as needed, and move to next wheel. Never reuse brake fluid. Only brake fluid from a sealed container. Brake fluid readily attracts moisture, and that is bad.

Why do I say a piece of wood under the pedal? This will protect your brake master cylinder from possibly being ruined while bleeding.
Were you to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, the push rod or piston in the master will travel beyond its normal movement. The inner seals then travel over a portion of the inner cylinder that never gets touched by the seals. Sometimes (often) a little layer of crud builds up there where the rod and seals never travel. Run the seal over that portion a few times and the seal will be ruined. Then you will need a new master cylinder.
Good luck. Oh, and if the master is ruined this way, you will know it quickly. Brake pedal won't hold, but will keep slowly going to the floor and little or no braking action.

I have a 96 geo prizm. I have replaced the front and back brakes. I have bled the brakes and the foot pedal is firm for about the first4 days. After the 4 days the brake pedal gets really soft and you...

It sounds like master cyl. is drawing in air causing prob. also another test would bee too bleed out and get pedal back, now step on pedal and hold firmly and see if pedal creeps near floor indicating innternal leaking in master cyl. also have some one pump bakes slowly aand look for air bubbles in brake res. after bleed out indicating master cyl. is drawing air upon release of pedal.

Brakes work but pedal slips and goes to floor car keeps rolling ?

If no brake fluid leaks, it's probably the master cylinder.

I replaced the master cylinder on my car e now i

ok sometimes a cylinder can be turned try this open bleeder cap on front left side then slam on the brake pedal as hard and fast as you can this will sometimes turn it back the right way. if brake fuild comes fling out it worked. when you bleed then use a hose to go on the end of the cap and the other end in a bottle of brake fuild so it cant get air back in the line. good luck
