88 dodge dakota, draining power, relay switch, coil...

Started having issues running iwth lights on. would die as driving. found no power to coil bypassed and started running. Changed A relay just not sure if it was the starter relay or not. Alternator is good. Battery is new. changed relay ran a few days and still would **** up power and die in route. Not sure if it's the coil or the relays..power being drained somewhere. Any ideas?

You about have to have a bad alternator or battery. What does your amp gauge say when you are driving down the road and have your lights on? Does it show that the battery is taking a heavy charge? Did you put a ohm meter set to DC current on your battery when it is running to see if the alternator is putting out?

Why does 91 dodge dakota shuts off power to coil after driving
The auto shut down relay controls power to the coil and fuel injection so if on power is at the coil once the engine dies this is normal check cranking it should return but no spark then test the crank shaft sensor iit is on back of engine passenger side bolted to block.

Could be the ASD relay which powers the coil and the computer.

check your catalytic converter for clogged up.
disconnect the exhaust pipe before the cat and run the engine to see if it still cut off.
if it run better, then that's the problem

try replacing the coil, my 2.5 did the same thing, and after changing plugs,wires,distributor,rotor,rotor button . the last thing i repalced was the coil and i have not had an issue since. all work was done about 6 months ago.
