1993 automatic transmission Geo Tracker that stalls every time I stop

The car had high RPM's so I took it to the mechanic. The mechanic lowered the RPM's but then my car began to stall every time I stopped. It would turn back on no problem. I took it back to the mechanic and he reversed what he initially did but the car continues to stall.

Sorry for late post
that was dead wrong to do. 1.6L ( 8v or 16v?)
the PCM sets idle only (ISC valve) and when cold only thermal IAC valve, so if then wrecked the TB throttle stop screw setting a factory settings. (no never touch) it did this like a CARB and is not one.

so is this a hot engine stall or cold, hot means normal temps.
stall on this car means the PCM lost control of idle. (its job is that)
top cause are.
1: EGR struck open they love to just as you stop the car. and stalls at 400 rpm and is never allowed to be active at idle (PCM logic0
so is bad valve stuck.
now back to high RPM
the answer is not same for 8v and 15valve engine
8v any vacuum leak causes super high idle.
16v engine leaks cause low idle, goes lean.
stalling has many causes ,
and are not the same hot and cold engine
on cold engine the IAC open and idle is about 1500 RPM
if not the IAC is dead or EGR stuck open.
on the hot engine the ISC holds RPM at 800 rpm, (AC off)
if not ISC stuck EGR open or ISC is jammed up,

EGR and ISC just love to stick on this car and can be cleaned
the IAC is therrmal device and can not be cleaned, only replaces and are rare now.
I have simple test to prove what it is , ask/

SOURCE: Engine sporadically stalls

Mr Delio I asume that your car is piece of sheet because mine has the same problem.
Pehaps going at low RPM the inyection system do not work propely due to the need of clean the inside car. Lets consider that at low RPM for a short time the inyection can be block out.
On the other hand may be could be a condenser that lost its energy for a while.
I f you need futher assistance just pay for it.

SOURCE: Stalling And Engine Revving

Sounds like a transmission problem. My car was doing that and it turns out it had a transmission fluid leak that had led to major transmission damage. The bad news: the entire transmission had to be rebuilt.

SOURCE: Stalling, etc.!!!!

First make shure you have a fully charged battery that way you will know if is the alternator the problem, then it could be some sensors in my jeep it was the MAP sensor.
And for the transmission first make shure there is fluid, even better do a fluid and filter change
you will be sorprized how many transmission get fixed that way and then they charge you for replacing the transmission . In my case it was a loose screw on transmission filter . it just fell off inside the transmission ...Good Luck

Hello,
I doubt it has anything to do with your lighter/aux, but change the fuse on it and see if that corrects the problem. Check to see if you can pull the gas pedal back with your hand and see if that lowers the RPM. Old cars can wear the parts that make your pedal rise fully back up.
There is also the intake adjustment screw near where your intake meets the manifold. It's usually a phillip's screw. This will lower or raise your RPM levels on idle. You may have to adjust the screw. Every time you make 1/4 turn adjustments, you need to let the car run for awhile as the process is gradual and NOT immediate. This is the steps I would take because I know my cars, but if you feel uncertain, please take it to a mechanic. Best of Luck!

How many rpm should a 1991 tracker 1.4 auto

The 1991 model was 65 inches high, 142.5 inches long and 64.2 inches wide, with an 86.6-inch wheelbase. Small variations in those dimensions were seen during the course of production, but not more than an inch for any of the measurements. The Tracker is able to tow 1,000 pounds and weighs between 2,238 and 2,338 pounds.Early models of the mini SUV were powered by a 1.6-liter overhead cam 8-valve fuel-injected engine with four inline cylinders, while later models were upgraded to a version of the same engine with 16 valves. The additional valves gave the later models more horsepower and torque. The smaller engine produces 80 horsepower at 5,400 revolutions per minute, and 94 foot-pounds of torque at 3,300 rpm. The larger engine produces 84 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, and 98 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm. Equipped with an 11.1-gallon fuel tank, the vehicle gets 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with an automatic transmission. With a manual transmission it gets 25 mpg and 27 mpg respectively.
Thanks.

Where does the hose from the transmission go

look on the intake manifold for a place or on the side of the throttle body( where air goes in the motor)

My 1993 Geo Tracker auto tran jerks when starting off from a complete stop,it's as if it's completely out of gear and drops back in when the RPMs come up? It works perfectly after that.

Check the fluid level to make sure it's full. If it is the problem is probably internal and will require a rebuild. This is one of the first signes of transmission or torque converter failure.

1996 geo tracker think I need a new transmission???

cost ? your kidding?

the CEL lamp glows (check engine lamp)
says Fault in the engine controls or tranny.
the OD lamp only flashes to warn of tranny malfunciton.

any mechanic can pull the codes and so can Auto zone for free.

get the codes and post them
or go to the mechanic and ask for diagnosis and just an estimate.

it all depend on the codes and how tranny shifts.
you could , on the other and get a full power flush of the tranny with a new filter and pray.

you skipped that step at 100k miles right?
