I'm afraid not. The alternators as well as the trucks are wired differently. The black yellow wire on both models goes to the fuse box, but on the 2005 model with the extra wire, the gray orange and brown white wires goe to the engine computer which acts as the voltage regulator. The 2003 computer would not have provisions for those circuits.
They have kits to retrofit radios. Another thing that will cost is having the radio reprogrammed. Everything has theft lock on them now days. You would be better off to get a aftermarket stereo
It is a transmission problem. Had the same problem a few years ago and had to have the transmission rebuilt. I put it off for a while by not parking where I had to back up and if I had no choice, I put it in neutral and was pushed backwards until I could find the right person and price to get it fixed! Good luck.
I know this sounds stupid but will it back up if you put it in 4wd low? If yes its a transfer case problem. If no, they the transmission will need rebuilt. Also can you push the vehicle forward or backward in park?
The first thing you need to fix is the fact that it will not go into park. I think the shift lever is maladjusted. There should be a way to adjust it near the transmission. Get this dealt with because I am thinking it could be a simple problem. If after you get it adjusted, it still does not immediately kick in to drive, then I think you have a serious tranny problem. You did not say how many miles were on the car, but if it has high miles (more than 100,000) and it has not ever been rebuilt, then it will probably need to be. The trannys in these Explorers were notoriously bad.
