The low beams and brake lights on my 91 Volvo 240 SW won't work

This happened pretty suddenly. The highbeams, dash, turn signals are all fine. I checked the fuses and they all looked good. I've been checking online and couldn't find any info. Since they all went out at once I didn't think it was bulbs. Then, this morning in frustration I literally hit one of the headlights while the switch was turned on and that headlight came on. I tapped the other and that one came on too. I haven't checked the brake lights yet. Possibly some kind of loose connection? Do you think this "fix" will last or what should I look for for a more permanent repair? Thanks!

Check the wire connections, also check that bulbs are tight. you may need a new brake switch located on the back of the brake pedal for the (rear lights) As to it all happening at once I have no guess sounds like a loose connection or a wire shorting due to warn wire coating.

My truck is actually a '95 C1500 but I understand that they were the same model from 88-98. I have 2 problems - both electrical. On a recent trip, I lost both low beam headlights at the same time. ...

There could be a fuse for each low beam light either under the hood or under the dash. If not, then prob both low beams are bad.

If you have daytime run lights, the following may be of help.

There is a daytime running light module that controls both low beams and the daytime running lights. The low beam bulbs may be OK. The high beams will work fine as they are not controlled through the module.

It may be possible to disable the daytime run lights by cutting the yellow wire going into the module and then connecting it to ground. Tape off the other end.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Highbeam problems

I've had this happen to me. It's a bad bulb with a broken filament the makes and brakes. If when you check the bulb and it's ok than look to the plug on the rear of the bulb possibly not making contact. Good luck.

91 volvo rear running lights not working..

had the same prob..check the the trunk where the bulbs are in the light bezel there's these flat steel contacts where the bulb housing is making contact with - fiddle with those a bit and you'll find that they'll come on when you move em around a bit. They're made pretty badly.

Turn Signals and Highbeams don't work

I just had this happen to me. The computer flashed "ABS system failure" and my steering wheel controls went out, and the wipers, and turn signals/high beams. The really weird thing is that some of the dash went out (i.e. the temperature went out, but the clock didn't).

I figured this was a computer problem, so I just pulled the fuses (the ones under the hood) and put them back in. The computer still flashes "ABS System Failure" but the car runs perfect.
