So I had the very same issues with mine and I specifically used the motorcraft plugs and bout 3 months later first incident occurred.. Blowing my coil pack and plug out of the cylinder # 3. Is the ford manual incorrect about what spark plugs to use as the best for your vehicle?
Well hubby says maybe the plug is bad factory
It has happened to us on our fordf250..mite
Just change that plug.. Good luck
Testimonial: "I was told that this happens on these engines. Ford didn't thread enough down when they engineered theses. Where spark plug has 9 threads the cylinder head has 4 or 5. This is the reason for the coil packs and plug get shot out. It's as if they did it intentionally"
SOURCE: replace spark plugs with plat core plug
Platinum plugs are NOT recommended for the Echo. The heat ranges are different. Put the right plugs in it (buy them from a Toyota dealer) and see if your problem vanishes. I get this quite a bit, customers put in new plugs, and it runs worse than it did before they changed the plugs. Note that ALL Toyota engines have a specific plug engineered for each engine. Platinums do not work unless the engine was designed for it. Same with iridium and NO Toyota runs well on the "split fire" plugs. If the problem persidts, change the coils around, see if the misfire "moves" to a new location, and you get a DTC P-0300, P-0301 and P-0302. If so, your coil pack may have failed, BUT, do the plugs first.

Could be the coil pack should be read in ohms about 7 to be good
