There is currently a recall going on for this problem. You can likely get your money back on the prior repairs as well. See this link http://www.toyota.com/recall/corolla-matrix.html. On the left-hand side, you can click to take you to put in your VIN and see if your vehicle is included. My 2007 vehicle IS included, and I just had the check engine light come on and have been experiencing rough shifting for about 6 months. When the light came on yesterday, it was extremely rough jerky shifting. The light went off today. Took it to Autozone and got same code P2716. Toyota has assigned me a case number, but I won't get a call back until Monday or by close of biz on Tuesday. This problem can cause your car to not start, or to shut down while driving. YIKES! The person I talked to at Toyota acted a little too nonchalant about the whole deal. Telling me to just wait for the call that I will get. She said most dealers would not have the part needed to fix this. According to what I have read. That is the reason why Toyota is not sending out the notification letters to the affected parties until mid-September. Check out all the info and good luck. I am a little bit p.o'd about this right now. - Natalie

This is a code relative to shift solenoid malfunctions in your computer. This is a known problem on your model and Toyota released an updated PCM to correct the problem.
While you can replace the PCM yourself if you are out of warranty, your dealer will need to code your VIN to it in order to get rid of the check engine light.
The warranty coverage is 8 years or 80,000 miles from new.

The details of the bulletin are below:

SOURCE: 2006 Toyota Corolla ECM Replacement Price?

your best bet is to get a used ecm form a salvage yard it should cost you about 200 dollars that is far cheaper than going to a dealership or a parts store. generally that is what i do when i replace ecms. there are plenty of wrecked vehicles and the ecm is good in them so why pass it up to get a part that cost brand new about 1500 dollars.. goodl luck. please rate this

SOURCE: I have received a Toyota Corolla 2007 maintenance

Hello; welcome to FixYa.

The P-2716 code you speak of is a problem in the logic (programming) in the car's Computer, or ECM.

Toyota is aware of this issue, and have issued a Technical Service Bulletin regarding that DTC Code; P-2716.

If your car is under 80,000 miles, Toyota will replace the ECM for you, for FREE. The ECM has an 8-year/80,000 mile warranty.

We here at FxYa hope this helps you out.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice!

SOURCE: check engine light in 2006 Toyota Corrolla..code P2716

P-2716 refers to a harsh shift, and the issue is in the logic of the ECU. It is a known issue with Toyota. This repair is covered for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealer, and have them perform the repairs outlined in Technical Service Bulletin TC015-07. They will replace the ECU if you vehicle has less than the time & mileage as described above.

SOURCE: p2716 pressure control solenoid d 2005 toyota

This is very common on Matrix/Corollas and is repairable by way of replacement PCM to correct invalid parameters. the labor is low but the part is very expensive.

Expect approximately $89 or less in labor, and $648 for the new PCM

Right now my car has a problem with the p2716 code

Unfortunately a P2716 code is a code for the pressure control solenoid inside the automatic transaxle, my suggestion to you is to take it to your local Toyota dealer where they will be able to monitor the shift solenoids within the transaxle.

Hope this helps....

Transmission

This has nothing to do with the shift solenoid switch. It is a failure of the ECM computer module. If your car is less than eight years old and less then 80K miles, it is covered by warranty

If not, the part is about $550.

Oem code p2716

It can all be explained here: http://matrixowners.com/tsb/T-TC014-06.pdf

BOTTOM LINE: TAKE IT TOYOTA BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES @ 80,000 MILES OR 8 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP.

I had mine taken care of today free of charge, and hassle free, thanks to the service crew at Condit's Toyota.
