Because of vehicles in the past were so easy to bypass this with just a jumper wire, new vehicle manufacturers have gone the rout of mounting this safety switch right on the transmission and integrated into the shift rod that goes into the trans for gear selection. I've found these very expensive and with a college degree in electronics and computers, a regular person would never figure out the code to find the proper wires at the switch to jump it now. It' just isn't fair.
