My 04 navigator has the PRND fault code so I switched the range sensor and I'm still getting the code. Could it be a bad connection and how do I test it?

Did you clear the code and it came back? Does your shifter lever have excess movement ? if so the shifter tube is cracked and the steering column switches are not completely closed also did you adjust the range sensor for the truck to start? This must be done for it to start

I don't know how to clear the code, speedometer tach and engine temp gauge not working since these sensor faults came up

  • Brian Sep 07, 2019

The truck starts and drives but like I said no speedometer etc..

  • stephen peirce Sep 07, 2019

Ok if there was no check engine light and this is new go to AutoZone or another parts store and have them scan your truck for them I'm pretty sure on of them will be a vehicle speed sensor or bad wheel sensors is the abs light on ? Also after the codes are read you can clear them by disconnecting the battery cables (But only if you have a key fob to shut off the alarm otherwise theft mode is eminent and you'll never get it running the parts store can clear them it's safer that way but if you have it do it this well clear the keep alive memory in the ecm then if they come back it's a real problem and must be fixed also check the power distribution box cables and the fuses post back to me please in comments again so if needed I can go further with you to solve the mystery

  • Brian Sep 07, 2019

Thank you, I will check it out and get back to you

Your cilinder 2 sensors are going wacky. located close to the cilinder itself. you may need to replace them chec your repair book for specific locations. Thenget a OBDII reader to erase code. Some autos if you disconnect your battery cable for a few may reset it to stop the blinking.

2004 Audi A4 Cabrio - the PRNDS flashes intermittently - sometimes staying on - then stops. Thank you, Scott.

IIf the vehicle is front wheel drive and now Quattro than then the transmission range sensor is located inside the transmission and is part of the mechatronics unit (valve body). If the vehicle isn't Quattro then the transmission range sensor is bolted to the drivers side of the transmission where the cable connectors to the shift lever. When these range sensors go bad that will cause the flashing or solid PRND light on the cluster.

I have 04 f150 fx4 with the 5.4 my check engine light is on code read o2 sensor repaced same one twice andstill say that the o2 sensor is bad why

O2 Sensor codes rarely mean that the O2 Sensors are defective. Most of the time, the O2 sensors are reporting a problem that is occuring somewhere else in the system. If your are getting a code that says "O2 sensor lean" that means that someting on that side of the engine is causing that side to be running lean. This is usually caused by a vacuum leak, but may also be caused by bad injectors or low fuel pressure. If BOTH sides are reporting lean O2 Sensor codes at the same time, it is something wrong that affects both sides of the engine including vacuum leaks in the main hoses tied into the intake manifold including the PCV hose and the Brake Booster Vacuum hose or the brake booster itself, or the Mass Airflow Sensor. Defective Engine Coolant Temperature sensors can also cause these codes. If the code you are getting is a "O2 Sensor Rich" code, it is caused by something that is making the engine run rich. This could be a sticking injector, a failed Fuel Pressure Regulator, or an O2 Sensor circuit that is shorted to voltage, or a malfunctioning Mass Airflow Sensor.
If you want to save a lot of money and frustration, learn this: Fault codes NEVER tell you what parts to replace. Fault codes only tell you which of the many systems monitored by the computer are operating outside their expected ranges or "Window of Operation". It is up to the person diagnosing the vehicle to test the system that is reporting the malfunction and determine the cause of the failure and repair as necessary.

Prob's with my Audi A6 2003 Auto 3.0 V6 (gearbox)

Doubt it as the fault suggests you need to look into the range sensor. If similar to Renault there is a switch on the gearbox that senses where the select lever is (at the gearbox end). If the display is wrong then the sensor needs looking at and either it will need to be adjusted into a set position by moving it, or perhaps the connector to it or wiring to/from it have a fault.
