If you have a welder and enough of the bolt is sticking out you can weld another bolt or nut to it to get the old one out and replace it with anything that will screw in with the same thread or you can use vise grips to get out the old one for both fixes it depends on how much of the bolt is still there did the head just break off or is it flush with engine cover if it's flush you need to raise up the motor and use a reverse drill bit (left hand ) and a tap and a propane torch and liquid wrench to loosen and back it out you may be able to just take out the inner fender to gain axcess with the tire off ///also you could still use a nut to weld it to the bolt it will take a little bit of time keep welding onto the broken bolt first don't worry the engine cover is aluminum and the weld will on stick to the bolt weld out enough to be able to fit a nut over the weld file it down if you have to fit your nut then weld the nut on to the welded exstension you just made it would be better to use a bigger nut and just keep welding it till its fully filled this will give you much more strength in it to turn out the bolt especially if you cross treaded it and that's why it broke and if that's the case you will have to retap that bolt hole for the thread to accept the new bolt good luck stephen you can rent a welder if you need to

SOURCE: Crank Pully

You may need to get a special crank pulley tool for Honda/Acura. Or you can use an old crank pulley belt and hold it down with a small monkey wrench or something. Then crack the nut counter-clock wise.

How to put on serpentine belt

Hi,

The tools required are:
1/2-inch drive ratchet
2 - 1/2-inch drive 8-inch extensions
1/2-inch drive socket set

Please follow these steps to replace the serpentine belt on your 1999 Chrysler 300M:

1. Open the hood and prop it in place.

2. Locate the serpentine belt adjustable idler pulley on the front of the engine. This adjustable idler pulley will be closest to the top of the engine. Position a metric socket onto the ratchet and loosen the bolt in the center of the serpentine belt idler pulley.

3. Now please loosen the push bolt on the side of the idler pulley. It is a 15mm size and the push bolt on the side of the tensioner is 13mm. Pull off the old belt.

4. Loosen the tensioner pulley for the AC belt. The same steps need to be followed for this as well.

5. Next slip the AC belt on the back of the crank pulley and route it as per the diagram under the hood.

6. Now you need to tighten up the idler pully and the push bolt until the belt play is within factory specifications, then tighten the hub bolt in the center of the pulley as well.

7. The same thing needs to be done for the serpentine belt as well. Just ensure that you tighten up the bolts and have the specified play in the belt. Check the belt tension by pushing inward on the belt.

8. Crank the vehicle for about 15-20 seconds. Then turn it off and again check the tension in the belt. Adjust as necessary. You need to have about half an inch of play in the belt.

If this doesn't work for you or in case you need any further assistance, please comment and let me know, and I will be happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.

I will appreciate your feedback and positive rating for this solution.
Thank you.

Need to know how to adjust serpentine belt, please show diagram. 6 cyl engine.

Really don't need a diagram. Loosen the slide bolts on the power steering pump. loosen or tighten the pump by turning the jack screw (long transverse bolt) under the pump. Once the belt is tightened up, lock down the slide bolts and you are finished.

I wanna to change the timing belt on a 1997 toyota tercel what are the first steps

first thing is go and buy a haynes repair book from the parts store. they cost around 25.00 or so. they are not that bad to change. with that being said. first unhook the battery, and all your belts off the pullies. then take the valve cover off (on some models) and the hard part will be getting the balancer off unless you have a aircompressor. and then around 10 bolts for the plactis cover for the belt. and you will see the belt the is a idler pully and a ten. pully you need to locate the screw for the ten pully and loosen it up so you can slide the belt off. and while you are that far into it. go ahead and replace the water pump that rides on the timing belt.

How do replace the tensioner pulley on a 2.2 engine 4 cyl. 1998 chevy cavelier .

there are two bolts located behind the pully on the mounting bracket arm, (you have to use a 1/2 inch drive bar in the idler pully to move it so you can see the bolts) That will help you with locating the bolts, while you are moving the pully you might as well take the belt off to save time, After you remove the old idler pully install the new one, use your 1/2 drive bar on the pully to put your belt back on. Pretty simple job, good luck!

2005 trailblazer

check the idler/tensioner pully's and the alternator pully, there is a common problem with one of these 3 going bad, usually an idler pully the best way to check is to get a mechanics stethescope and touch the end to the bolt on the idler pully's you will notice a very distinct sound difference from a smooth pully and one with bad bearings. gm tech here, seen many of these

1998 Saturn SL idler pulley broke off and bolt is stuck in engine

The idler pully can be removed without removing the engine. I have replaced mine in my 97 SL2. As to the bolt breaking off, that is strange. I assume that if the bolt broke off, then the idler pully also fell off. If I remember, the space is somewhat limited, so getting a removal tool in there could be very difficult, especially if the bolt is flush with the mounting hole. That doesn't sound like a fun project. If bolt protrudes, maybe you can get some vise-grips on it and turn it out.
