Assuming you are talking about engine oil, there should be a crosshatched area at the end of the cable that represents the correct oil level. position. You can have a look at a picture at https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-help-engine-oil-dipstick-917-381/11093990-P?utm_medium=ymme.

What engine is in your A4.  Normaly if the oil is in between the hash marks on the dip stick thats good,  If above or below hash marks this is bad.  To properly check oil level start vehicle up let it run for 30 sec.   Shut vehicle off and let it sit for aprrox 2min then check the level.

SOURCE: I have a problem reading the oil dip stick for my 03 rodeo

the lower circle is the minimum level for the oil in your pan, so you should add oil. when was yor last oil change maybe you are due, always let the engine sit for a few minutes before chwcking your oil al it takes time for all the oil to drain back into the pan

SOURCE: I have a 2007 335i convertible.. my low oil light

335's don't have dipsticks. They have oil level/condition sensors. You can check the level through the instrument cluster using the BC button and thumbwheel on the stalk or through the NAV using i-drive( if equipped).

My problem is when driving, the engine rattles bad especially when accelerating, I had noticed my oil level looked empty

Most engines take at least 5 quarts of oil. Have you check the dip stick to see how much is in there?

Where do I check the transmission fluid?

Since you didn't tell us what kind of car you want to check, we'll give a general answer: Under the hood you'll look for a yellow handle marked transmission. This is a dip stick just like the one for oil .With the engine running in park pull out the dip stick, wipe it off with a rag. Put it back in and pull it out again to read the markings on the end of the dipstick. Add the amount indicated. NEVER overfill the transmission.

Where is the place to put automatic tranny fluid?

Most cars have a tube-like device with a removable fluid level checking "dip stick" in it connected to the transmission. The d stick has fluid level marks on its very tip showing low to full. You wipe the d stick clean insert it with the motor running in park gear. Insert and remove and take a look at the end of the d stick. Your looking for wetness of oil and this gives you the actual level of oil in the tranny. Compare the wetness to markings on the stick to tell if you need to add more ATF oil to the unit or not. Add a 3rd of a quart at a time and recheck until the wetness is at the full mark - if low on fluid. This dip stick and tube is usually spotted easily by looking for its special knob end - which can be yellow, red or have TRANS written on it somewhere around the motor area - and don't confuse the motor oil dip stick for the one you're looking for. Some cars have no such device. Checking then become a mechanics chore once the car is up on a lift. This link shows great products to assure years longer transmission life. Hope this helps. http://www.auto-tune-up-and-repair-options.com/Transmission-Help.html

The transmission dip stick was missing on my 2004 GMC Envoy when I bought it. I bought a universal dip stick to replace. What is the correct length of the dip stick from top to bottom from the opening?

Do not use a universal dipstick, go to a dealer or to salvage yard to get the proper dipstick. Correct transmission fluid is important for the operation of the ******.

Transmission slipping on 03 GMC Envoy. what does iy mean when trans fluid measure high on dip stick?

Two things: #1 someone has overfilled it by mistake thinking they were putting oil in the engine. Yes I have seen this.
#2 The transmission cooler in the radiator could be leaking antifreeze into the transmission through the cooling line raising the fluid level. I would look for milk shake foam on the dip stick and make sure you check trans in park and not neutral.

Bought the envoy w/ 70,000 miles, fresh oil change. @ 74,000 miles it was 1.5 qrts low, put in 5w30, checked oil 2 weeks later it was 1 qrt low. do not see smoke or any leaking.

I just bought a 2005 envoy too. I read in the manual that the 4.6 6 cyl engine needs 7 qts total. 2 Over the normal oil change. Is it possible it wasn't low to start? I noticed when Walmart changed the oil they charged extra for the change because it needed the two extra qts. However my dip stick has oil over the full mark. Seemed strange but I haven't had any leaks and after 3k mile no change in level. Make sure you had the correct about the first time.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy the shifter cable came off and I had to put it in park myself. I noticed at the end of the shifter cable that the round plastic washer at the end of the cable broke. How can I find...

Check out this site for the part to fix the transmission end of the cable. Go to the rear end of the transmission on the driver' side (under the car/truck). Make sure to push the transmisssion lever toward the front of the car/truck (park position), the shifter should also be in park. Get the part, install is easy.

Reading the gauge on the oil dipstick 1998 saab 900

The dip stick end should have a plastic square piece with two roundish bulbs on each end. The oil level should read just at the bottom of the top bulb (the bulb nearest the yellow cap at the top end of the dip stick). This indicates full. A level reading anywhere between the two bulbs is adequate but not optimal. Oil below the top end of the bottom bulb, means 1 quart low, and no oil at all on the bottom bulb means get some oil in there double quick.
