Won't crank after it has been running.

I have a 2003 Santa Fe V6 3.5 and can get in my car, turn it on and drive. I drive 15+ miles and have the car at operating temperature if for some reason I turn it off (I have reached my 1st destination, I stop to get gas etc) and then try to turn it on again it won't ...I can get enough power to operate the lights, the windows and/or the radio...although all will dim when I am trying to start up the car I can't get the car to crank. I have been taken it to the dealer where they charged me $160 and flushed the coolant and told me it was now "ok"....I got home and tried stopped and then had to leave to go to the store...car started but when I got to the store it would not start..I was stranded for 3 hours in a car that had only been out of the shop for 30 minutes !!.

Two days later when they finished "working" on it they said they had replaced a crank shaft sensor and charged me an additional $470 (My husband, who is an aircraft mechanic and happens to have a 2003 Sanata Fe shop manual, located the area that was indicated as the crank shaft sensor and discovered the dirt hadn't even been smudged so I can't guarantee they actually replaced the sensor or even looked at it). I was able to get the car home with no problem but 30 minutes later my husband went to put gas in the car....after filling it he tried to start the car and it would not crank....even when it cooled off it would not crank...it took 6 hours before we could get it to crank and drive it home; while driving it home the "check engine" light came on for the first time.

I have called the dealer and was told to bring the car back in...I can't afford many more hundred dollar + charges but risked it one more time; when I tried to start the car it started just fine. I pulled over and stopped and started the car several times with no problems...the "check engine" light continued to shine; when I got it to the dealer it did finally act up again and the "check engine" light was still on but what do you guys thinks is wrong...could it be the sensor and they just didn't do the work they claimed to or is there something else I should be worried about?

The whole experience with this dealership was nothing short than a nightmare. It took three trips and letters to Hyundai America but the car was finally fixed...I think. It turned out to be just a starter.

Sounds to me as if they did not do the job if they did they need to also check the cam posistion sensor this will also keep your vehicle from starting. if you take it back to the dealer tell them you want the old part back. but if the area around the crank sensor looks untouched it probably was. hope this helps you.

How many miles do I have to drive, before the engine resets on a Hyundai Santa Fe?

If your talking about the enginelight, it's not miles, it's how many times you turn the car on. this can be up to 50. And the light will only go out if there are no problems with the engine management system.

Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove thru puddle about 3 months ago - Battery light came on & lost power steering, but after 1 minute, batt light off & steering fine... Then, on very...

the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

Starting problems with my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have an 03 Santa Fe as well and just had the exact thing happen to me. One day, it just wouldn't turn over at all and I had to have it towed to the dealer. They replaced the "crank shaft position sensor" and now the car is fine. I am not sure if this is your problem but it might be worthwhile asking someone to check it out.

2003 Santa fe timing belt change

You can drive it till it breaks of course, that will cost much more then replacing it as maintenance though. I would plan to have it changed much sooner then later as you are already past your recomended service time.
