My 2002 dodge neon has check engine light with coded p0302. I know to try replacing the plug/wires, are there any other common causes for this error code that I should check out?

Hi! When replacing the plugs and wires on this model be sure there is no oil in spark plug wells. You will notice the oil on the plug wire boot when removing it. If there is any oil on any of the boots the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals will need to be replaced or the misfire code you mentioned will return. Hope this information helps!

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Misfire repair

The repair depends on the cause. The key is to have the problem diagnosed properly. Once you know what caused the engine to misfire, you will know what it needs. Don't start by throwing new parts at it. Even if you planning on doing repairs yourself, it's not a bad idea to have the vehicle properly diagnosed at a dealer or reputable repair facility, where technicians have access to up-to-date information, technical service bulletins (TSB) and advanced scan tool.

The cost of repair will obviously depend on the problem. For example, if the misfire is caused by a bad on-plug ignition which is quite common on many newer cars, the repair might involve replacing a bad coil.

I suggest to exchange coil #1 with Coil #2 and then scan to see if the code is p0302.

That is the coil on top of the plug. You have to remove the wire and the screw.

Why does the coil pack keep goin bad on my 2004 dodge neon?

How do you know the coil pack is bad ? Did you test it , or are you going just by the P0302 - P0300 ? These codes do not mean the coil pack is bad ! Could have a vacuum leak , could have weak fuel pump , partially plugged fuel filter ! The engine could have a mechanical fault , burnt valve , bent valve , bad head gasket ! Sounds like you need stop wasting your money an take it to a pro !

Check engine light on i change plugs wires coil fuel injector #1 still cannot solve problem

Most major auto parts stores will connect a code reader to the plug the vehicle has-----it will read the error for the Check Engine and also can clear the check engine--does not fix the problem but the error code read will indicate in a general way why the light came on---my experience here is first hand---most of the time it will be a error related to the emission control system.

Get the code read and take it from there.

There are other good experts here so with the code post again if need further help.

My 2002 dodge neon is missing but i don't think it is the spark plugs, could it be it needs a new fuel filter? The engine light doesnt come on when it misses.

For some reason neons require Champion brand plugs, like the one's from the factory. Also check the plug wires. If it's also got a nasty oil leak on the driver's side the cam sensor is probablt the culprit, causing the misfire.

Blinking Check Engine light

This is typically a sign of a "detrimental misfire". A blinking check engine light means DON'T DRIVE ME! You may want to have your coil pack checked, plugs replaced or gapped properly, or wires replaced. Would also have to do with the camshaft sensor causing your timing to be off.
