Can putting 10w30 synthetic oil instead of 5w30

Had oil change done ..... Days later had issues with check engine on. Shop checked out and said they thought it may be from oil being wrong viscocity. Never heard of oil making a difference between 5 & 10 w30

The question is? Could putting a 10w30 oil cause a valve cover and intake to leak oil?

5w 30 is much thinner than 10w 30. Most newer vehicles require 5w30

I personally like synthetic oils because the viscocity adjusts with the temperature in all climates and weather. No need to change every season

No not at all. Actually would help it more then worsen it. Those just go through time, wear and tear, and excessive acceleration

Just had my oil and filter changed and almost immediately noticed a knocking sound. Two days later my check engine light began to flash and the knocking got louder

Have you called shop that did oil change? Have a different shop check oil and filter to make sure proper filter used especially.

2004 Navigator 5.4l dohc passenger side lifter tap.

Are you absolutely certain the noise is lifter tap and not an exhaust leak? These are pretty well known for breaking exhaust manifold studs, or even cracking exhaust manifolds. The noise will be present on a cold engine but might go away as the engine heats up and the manifold expands. Maybe that's why it seems to go away after adding additives or changing the oil. It gets just enough heat in the engine to fool you in to thinking the issue was resolved by adding the oil/additive. Are you always adding to a cold engine?

My 2005 Chevy Cobalt Ls has been having problems ALOT! When I fust bought it in August of this year it had no problems until we hit a raccoon. The radiator and the air condensor was broken and had to be...

If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the spark plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. Check everything with engine cranking. If your missing all three, check your crank sensor. Can you check applicable trouble codes?

If your saying the starter motor won't even crank the engine, that is a different issue?

Car will simply not start for several days and will then run and repeat the problem several days later. There is plenty of juice in the battery but the car will not turn over it's just dead when you turn...

i have this same exact car and had this same exact problem over the past couple weeks. At first I thought it was the fuel pump, but was later told otherwise. My car is currently in the shop and it turned out i needed new head gaskets and i had oil leaking onto the spark plugs. It was a pain to get done, but catching it quick and biting the bullet will save the engine.

hope this helps :-)

I would have the front brakes checked and from what you are telling me you may have a warped rotor I do not know how many miles are on the car some cars have a reset after the oil change has been done to turn off the check engine light but if it keeps coming on take it to autozone and they will put it on a tester for free and then you will know what needs to be done

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON

this has nothing to do with the oil, it does indicate that a problem has occurred in the electronic engine controls, have the system tested, there will be a trouble code stored for the event.

Black oil

Possible scenarios

1. Oil never changed by shop.

2. Old oil was extremely dirty and when changed (way overdue) the sludge in engine and residual oil darkened the clean oil making it look dirty. If its an issue to you some places offer a motor oil flush service.
