HI, I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 1990 NISSAN 300ZX NON TURBO 5SPD. I GOT THE ENGINE RUNNING BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. THE TRANS FEELS LIKE IT IS IN GEAR AND DOES NOT MAKE ANY STRANGE NOISE. THE CLUTCH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE NEW? THERE IS A NEW CLUCH MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDER THAT CAME W/THE CAR NOT YET INSTALLED. COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM? MY THOUGHT IS IF THE MASTER OR SLAVE WAS BAD THE CLUTCH SHOULD BE ENGAGED NOT DISENGAGED? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS, BOB

Being 1991, and a sport car, good idea to go ahead and replace slave cylinder since you have them and very easy to replace. If you able to push your car while is in any gear more likely the clutch pad pressure plate are worned and slipping. If you can push the car while is in gear even the engine is not running than it will be your clutch pad and your presure plate is shot that would mean you tranny has to come out. once you in the tranny you might as well replace with new clucth pad, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Also check your fly wheel make sure is not ate up. if it is then you will have to have the flyweel resurface by a machine shop. using the lift is the best way to work on the Z. most garage will charge 400-500 to do the work.

The aged engine needs to be replaced. Look for an aftermarket used and reconditioned engine. Have a station lift your out and replace it with a good engine. Could cost $1000 or more.

Hi I havw question how many gears have 1991 nissan 300 zx tt automatic and when at chenging gears (rev) I heard around 4000rpm.

300zx auto will have 4 gears. 1-3 are normal running gears 4th is said to be an "overdrive" gear.

shift points should be under 4krpm, with light driving. my 300zx non-turbo usually shifts around 2-3K.

throttle position sensor could need adjustment or replacement. trans fluid should be checked to see if it's in good shape and full.

Your Friction disk (clutch) is worn out. Have it replaced....might also need pressure plate, but not necessarily.

Nissan 300zx no reverse or 4th gear.

Hi,
The first place I would look is the shift linkage for wear and a sloppy connection from wear.
adjustments may be made as a possible fix on the linkage rod.

That means the transmission is going into Limp mode - something's wrong that is making the car believe it can be damaged by the speeds the upper gears will allow you to reach. For starters, check the fluid level (or just change it - it's not a bad idea), and disconnect the battery for an hour or so to put the ECU into relearn mode - this will clear current fault codes and allow you a fresh start to see if the condition reappears, or if it was a fluke failure of some part that caused the car to repeatedly go into limp mode.

I assume this is an automatic transmission. Is it a twin turbo or a non-turbo model? It sounds like you've lost fourth gear and are stuck in 3rd - those RPM would be about right. If you can provide more information, it will probably help in the diagnosis.
