I can't believe they still use a cable! Nearly every other company uses an electronic system using pulses from a speed sensor.

Your issue has all the security system working against you. Did you disconnect the battery? If so you need to do a system reset.

Did you check that the fuel pump is working well and there are no air locks.

The Uno dash has two small Allen bolts on the sides of the gauges. Unscrew them, and gently pull the instrument cluster forward and out of the dash. The speedo cable has a plastic clip that holds the cable to the speedometer. The clip unclips from the speedo with a gentle pull away from it.

1342 is the firing order for this car ,been many a year since i worked on one though .These cars never did last long in the UK as they were known for their aversion to water or rain ,wash it too often or drive in the rain and they corrode away for fun
