My aircon/heating fan just stopped working, is this a common problem, are the fans prone to failure / are they expensive to fix or replace?

I have an 01 330ci and a similar thing happened to me... The dealership indicated that they have only ever replaced a handful of actual fans in these cars (and that they're tucked down deep in the dash...) but my issue was what they referred to as the "final stage unit." It was this bulky multi-pronged metal plug that went in behind the glove box. I believe it only cost me about $80-$90 from the dealership last summer. And I think only an hours labor from the mechanic I used.

I have a 2001 Chrysler concord Lxi 3.2 . I have had an over heating problem since I got the car so I have replaced the thermostat, water pump, cooling fans, radiator cap, radiator, and it still over heats....

You need to check For cooling fan operation. It may be a temp sensor problem (Fan relay signal) or a bad relay. A SIMPLE TEST would be to turn on the A/C, the cooling fan should run continuous in this position. The fan should run intermittently Relative to Coolant Temp. in all other positions. Check for voltage (14v ) at fan motor harness connector . If voltage is present at the fan motor connector then most likely a bad fan motor. The temp switch ( Fan Relay signal) is located in the thermostat housing or the radiator. This engine is prone to head gasket failure so do not overheat during testing procedures.

Picasso heater blower not working

Hi all. Yes this is a very common issue. 2 distinct issues in fact are common with the aircon.
1 you get fan on certain settings only. This is the resistor gone and johnjohn2 has identified the fix for this above. This is usually (although not always not intermittent and so you will usually lose all other settings over night and they don't come back
2 you get no fan activity at all. This starts to happen intermittently and then gets more frequent until the fans won't work at all. The fix for this is expensive through Citroen but cheap if you get the part off ebay. It is the ignition switch cable which has a fault. A very common issue. You need to remove the ignition switch and replace the cable from it. Work is not long but plugs can be tight and fiddly.
here is the link for the part

My heater has stopped working and ive checked the fuses and its not them what should i try next

Hi,
There is a blower motor resistor , located in the air duct coming from the blower assy. This will have 4/5 wires attached which determine the speed of the motor blower. This will determine the fan speeds depending on the resistor combinations selected. Sometimes the fastest blower speed will work because it has no resistance and gets full voltage.
You can also check the plug going into the fan assy , the plug may have reecieved a knock from a foot and become loose! A circuit tester will be a great help also . Good Luck

My trailblazer is making a grinding noise where the fan goes into the motor and it is loose

the fan clutch may be bad, very common, but check the water pump also. Fan clutch failure is common, you may be ahead to replace that if the pump is bad.

MY 320i BMW E46 SALOON over heating.cooling fan does not function.I checked with X431 scanner the trouble code says ativation electric fan is the problem.there is 12v to the fan .also there is earth to the...

The electric radiator fans in these 3 series cars are prone to failure and you will find the motor driving the fan is dead and not economically repairable. It will need to be replaced with a new one.

If you operate the vehicle without an operable fan you will cause very expensive damage to your engine due to overheating.

The safe option is to have the car towed to a reputable auto service/repair shop, or to the BMW service centre, and have the fan replaced (unless you have the skills and know how to do it yourself).

Aircon wont switch on when motor is running. Fan not working either.

If your fan is not working, the AC is prevented from coming on. This is a safety so the evaporator (cooling heat exchanger) does not ice over.

Fix the fan problem, and the AC will work.

If the fan does not work at any speeds (lo, med, Hi). Then you have a blown fuse or wire disconnect.

If the fan works on HI only, then your blower resistor is shot. This is a common failure and can be replaced at your dealer or by yourself if you are handy.
