The engine does not run rough or shake or sputter when idling. It drives very smooth.

Go to Wal-Mart or Auotparts store and buy SEAFOAM. This will clean & clear the crud off of your O2-sensor. This should strighten your problem.
SOURCE: 2003 Silverado rough idle, idles good after "check engine" light
Check your o2 sensor voltage, those trucks are real bad for o2 sensors, and yes if one sensor is reading 0mv, the others will start to drop out, and the vehicle will run very, rough. You also may check fuel system pressure, should be almost 60p.s.i. If its alot lower, Id be looking into a fuel pump. If that vehicle is drive-by-wire (no throttle cable), the throttle bodies get very dirty and cause that concern also. Id start by having the vehicle scantested.

OBD II 300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.
Possible Causes:
Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors and computer issues
Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality
Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine
Incorrect Fuel Pressure
EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports
Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues
Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to:
Faulty spark plugs
Faulty coil or related wiring
Ignition module or related wiring issues
Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues

check for a lose spark plug lead or cracked elecrod insulation on spark plug

have the vehicle scanned for error codes at autozone, its free. Post codes for more help....These engines have issues with the COPs (ignition coils-over-plugs) failing prior to 80k miles. When they fail typical problems are: Sputtering under load/acceleration, rough idle, random misfires, random stalling, light or heavy jerking under load (usually at 15-35mph and 45-65mph)..hopefully this helps!!

Grant if you got bad gas you might need to change your fuel filter. If you have multiple cylinders misfiring I'm surprised it is idling smooth?
Adding that 92 octane was a smart idea Grant
I add a small bottle of Lucus Fuel Stabilizer in my tank every other tank fill up in my personal vehicle. The gas stations don't take care of their tanks like they use to. One last word of advice, NEVER get gas if the fuel tanker is unloading. Water goes to the bottom but He stirs it up big time when he is dropping with that 4 inch hose.
I meant 93 Octane, good smartphones.
Never thought of that before. That makes sense about stirring up the water. Great advice.
Grant most people don't ever think about that, I delivered Gas for years.
