My airbag light is on because of my passenger seat sensor. Can it be turned off by a bypass switch or cap? The dealer wants to replace the entire seat. I would just like the light to go off and not put a child seat in the front anymore. Any suggestions?

Speculation without further details but 3 usual causes:
1. Clock spring in steering wheel for airbag open circuit.
To Test - disconnect battery-disconnect airbag ribbon from steering wheel -insert 3 -8ohm resistance bypass in airbag plug below steering column feeding clockspring. reconnect battery and see if light goes out after 5 seconds
2. Check passenger seat sensor operational.
To test - with ignition off - disconnect plug under passenger seat for sensor pad and insert test ohm resistance in feed plug. switch ignition on as test 1.
3. Check steering wheel button operation. if any radio actions do not work problem may be infrared link between steering wheel and radio (especially aftermarket modules)

No there is no switch to turn airbags on/off and No the sensors cannot be adjusted.
Owners manual can be purchased from a main dealer or auto parts store.

The passenger sensing system turns off the right front
passenger frontal airbag and seat-mounted side
impact airbag under certain conditions. The driver
airbags and the roof-rail airbags are not affected by the
passenger sensing system.
The passenger sensing system works with sensors that
are part of the right front passenger seat. The sensors
are designed to detect the presence of a properly-seated
occupant and determine if the right front passenger
frontal airbag and seat-mounted side impact airbag
should be enabled (may inflate) or not.

I'm not sure if a purse or other light weight objects would activate the passenger airbag but if your display is showing random passenger activation it would be best to have a qualified dealer check into it...better safe than sorry.

Is there a passnger airbag light also, on this car? If it's the passenger airbag light, it could be a problem with the switch and/or sensor for the passenger seat. Either way, you really should get this to a dealer ASAP since when the light is on, the airbag is inoperable.

Its a weight sensitive sensor, so you would probably have to come up with some sort of resistor. I doubt you can bypass it.

The sensor is located in the padding of the seat, you have two wires for seat belt and two wires to the sensor jumping the sensor to bypass the switch is dangrous so will give you a site that can fix it even if dealers can't. You can call the parts dept. of your hyundai dealer. Have your VIN# ready let them know you need a price on the pressure sensor that is inside the passenger seat. If they ask, let them know what it is for. which is to turn on and turn off the passenger air-bag. Remember to stick to the subject, I wouldn't gossip to them about what the service dept. said. through this you will be more informed, good luck.

The passenger airbag is what is called a smart generation airbag, there is a sensor in the passenger seat that tells the airbag control module to turn off the bag if the weight is less than 50 pounds in the paswsenger seat, i.e. a child, I work for Ford and we will not turn off or tamper with or disconnect the airbag, why? if you get in a wreck and are hurt because we disconnected or otherwise defeated the airbag we would be liable for damages and a lawsuit.

There is a sensor under the seat cushion that is basically a weight sensor, if a certain weight is not sensed then the airbag is turned off, it must be defective.
