Brake lights not functioning and cruise control will not set.

This is a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT. The brake lights stay on even when the vehicle is turned off and parked. Adding to this the cruise control will not set. I checked the fuzes and they are all good.

Lift the pedal, and see if the light goes off, if it does, there is a switch on the pedal that is out of adjustment. If it does not go off, the switch could have fallen off, or it is broken. Anyways, it is under the dash, should be right up the brake pedal. First, try to adjust it, to get it closer to the brake pedal arm, if it doesn't go off, it should be bad, take it off, and take it to the auto parts place, they should be able to test it, with a multimeter.
This is probably why the cruise control does not work also, as when you drive down the road and hit the brakes, the cruise goes off.

Cruise control not working in my 2009 Silverado. It went out gradually over the past several months, pretty much worked intermittantly.

cruise control module has failed. or if your brake lights are staying on, then brake light switch has failed and not allowing cruise to engage. Have someone stand behind truck and see if brakes are working properly, if not- replace brake light switch. if fine, then swap out cruise control module under hood.... prob find one at a junk yard.

Cruise control stopped working on a 08 Chevrolet HHR

I just got the perfect answer to this yesterday. It's a $5 fix! Check your brake lights. If any of them are out, it will make the cruise control not function. Turns out all 4 of the 3rd set of brake lights were out. We replaced the 4 of them and the cruise control immediately became functional again. I got this tip from a gentleman in the service department at a local Chevy dealer.

Brake lights and cruise control stopped working on 2004 chevy tahoe

I suggest to check your tail lights. sometimes if they go out, the cruise control will not work. Oh and also, what i did when this happened to me, I checked under the brake pedal and pushed and pulled the little button that activates the taillights and it worked again. It may have gotten stuck..
The brake light fuse may have popped..

ALSO: -- There seems to be a recall for this..
CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS MAY EXPERIENCE THE PERMANENT LOSS OF BRAKE LAMP FUNCTION OR BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES. THE CENTER HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LAMP (CHMSL) IS AFFECTED IN BOTH INSTANCES. ALSO, IF EQUIPPED, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE. ANY TRAILER BRAKE LAMPS WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMP WIRING WILL MIMIC THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMPS WHEN EITHER CONDITION OCCURS.

Cruise control will not engage even though the indicator on the Cruise on/off switch is illuminated.

Check that your brake lights are staying off. Brake light switch will put your cruise control into coast mode.

It's in the owners manual. Cruise control will not work if your parking brake is set, or if the master cylinder brake fluid is low. That is staight out of the owners manual.

I did not, but they're a recall on the 2004-2006 Colorado trucks for this problem. I have come to find out that the brake lights are not functioning as well. The recall explains that these trucks (2004-2006) is having problems with the brake lights (sensor, switch?) that it would also cause the cruise control not to work. So hopefully I can call the dealership to make an appointment to get it fixed.

Cruise control inop

Could be a bad vacum dump switch on the brake pedal. There is 2 switches on the brake pedal one for brakes lights and one for cruise The cruise switch must be pushed when the pedal is up. Or your servo under the hood is bad To identify the parts go to the parts store and look at them and you will know what to look for
