Try this have someone assist you take and pull the hood latch and have someone tap the middle of the hood with there hand while you pull the latch all the way out and as they are tapping on the hood let go of the latch if it still doesnt open try this a few more times. If you get the hood open where the locking mechanism is under the hood spray a little WD-40 or PB blaster something like that to help it work better the next time.

I have a 96 Volvo 850. The hood pops open from the release latch in the cab. The safety latch in front of the car that comes out from the grill will not release the hood from opening Suggestions?

I have the same problem on mine. Once the hood is released inside the cabin, do the following:
Push the release in on the hood, then pull up a bit on the hood and then the release should pull out completely unlocking the hood. Hope this helps.

96 88 olds, hood is popped but won't open. Is freezing weather a factor and my girlfriend just washed the car. Was wondering if maybe hood hinge is frozen. Anything helps thanks

Water could have the plastic guide's the release cable runs through or caused them to break limiting the pull on the release. If you look from underneath bumper with light you can see mechanism have someone pull release & hold why look to see whats not disengaging. Yo manually open from there.

Hood won't open

Is the cord to release the hood broken? If you have been in an accident recently, the hood secure hook might not work properly. Try to lift your hood up, if it lifts even slightly, try to squeeze your hand in between the grille and hood and release the hook securing the hood.
Same thing happened to my car, the hood release inside the car will not operate, and the hood will not latch properly, but this works for me.

Hi, just tried to open the bonnet of my audi a6 '96 plate and only one of the two locks seem to open as only one side pops up meaning the lever does not come out of the grill to allow the bonnet to pop up....

You will be able to open the hood if you pull off your splash guard and use a long long flat head screwdriver or something like that. You'll see the hood latch in front of the radiator with the cable attached to it at the top near the hood, put it on the drivers side edge of the bottom of the latch and pry to the passenger side, the lever moves from the drivers side to the passengers side, the cable basically pulls the top of it to achieve this. so your doing the same thing on the bottom with the screwdriver.

Release the latch from underneath by the lever that you have to pry towards the passenger side. Then open the hood, and repair or replace the safety release mechanism. This is very simple to remove out from the hood.

Hood latch cable broke need to open hood

The hood release cable seems to be malfunctioning on my 2001 Pathfinder SE. The inside release handle pulls without much restance and does not return to it's proper position. The hood does not unlatch. It seems that the cable is broken. How do I open the hood?

How do I open the hood if the release isn't working? It's a 96 Dodge Ram 1500. I don't know if the cable is broken, or needs adjustmebt.

Pull the release while helper presses down then lifts on hood. If it opens , lubricate the latch assembly before you close it again.

How do you install the hood release cable on a 96 honda civic dx?

TOOLS:
Screw Driver, Plastic Cup to place your bolts.

STEPS:
1. Buy a new latch for $20 max. or $5 from your local junkyard
2. Open your hood. Take out your grille. Front bumper. Driver side fender and plastic fender cover.
3. Take the plastic panel covering the hood release latch. (should have 1 plastic screw, just pop that with a flat-head screw driver)
4. Remove bracket (2x -10mm bolts)
5. Remove the entire broken hood release with your new one.
6. Place everything back
7. Enjoy!

How do i open hood on my 96 dodge 2500 when hood release is broken

Where did the cable break? Is it still visible? You can look where the hood release was and if the cable is still there you can use pliers to pull it so it will pop your hood. try that

or
lay on your back look up under the grill area of the truck, there is a mechanisim with a claw on it grab ahold of the cable going into the mech. once its open i suggest buying a new 1 or tie rope to a shorter piece of cable

Opening hood on 1992 Ford Explorer

I had the same problem with my hood. I had that handy wire hanging out of the front but it didn't want to release the hood. The cable was jammed and the hood had to be manually released via ratchet. After you can get the hood open maneuver the cable under the plastic piece where the hood meets the grill to stop this from happening again.
